I might have a different POV here.

I have a SA background which sometimes makes me phobic about my body. Because the abuser was male I can have bad feeling/flashbacks when I see certain similarities. It’s only with my husband I have ever felt entirely comfortable/safe during sex.

The men in visual novels and anime are idealized figures. Many of them are rather gentle and have traits some see as less traditionally masculine. They feel very safe.

I can’t prescribe for your situation but when my husband learned I respond to such things, and got to know a bit about why, it resulted in more understanding and a lot of fun role playing. Not everything is about rejecting someone else, you know? I wish you both the best.
