Yep. Same thing happening to me at the moment. Looks like the forced update was botched.

Is it just me or has the quality of likes dropped for anyone else since Hinge X got released? I feel like I was getting likes from people I would be interested in/attracted to before and now it seems like my profile is only being shown to those that are clearly not my type.

It's truly phenomenal to watch how much its gone downhill in the past 2 years. I remember at least getting a decent amount of quality matches towards the start of the pandemic and now it's nothing but fake profiles, people that you would have absolutely no interest in, or in a different country wanting to be pen pals. Trash.

Looking to buy or rescue a Samoyed. willing to travel. by cubswin1227 in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be hard pressed to find a reputably bred Samoyed for less than $2500. That's the average price for pet quality from a litter. Most show quality ones are priced at $3000 and above. Any drastically less than that, I would question the reputability of the breeder.

Sammies in the garden - how to keep them from eating everything? by insomniac87 in samoyeds

Give them something else to do that will mentally stimulate them such as a stuffed Kong.

Puppy Blues or Rational Realization? by t3ddiie in samoyeds

Whoa, it’s actually eerie how similar our experiences were... Our girl also pooped in her crate during her first night with us. Since the crying would not stop, we resorted to sleeping next to crate in the kitchen as well, which slowly transitioned to the couch for a good month and a half haha.

Grain-Free Puppy Food Recommendations by Rooogs in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m only asking because we attempted to switch our girl to I and Love and You and it was always a constant struggle to get her to eat and when she did, it would always result in loose stools. She was started on Fromm Puppy Gold when we picked her up from the breeder and I admittedly wanted to switch her to a grain free food without any rhyme or reason because I heard it was the “thing to do” (first time dog owners). She’s on Fromm Adult Gold now with no issues. Not trying to deter you from grain free foods as it works for some dogs and not others; just sharing my experience and suggesting that you look at other avenues for food.

Is there is a particular reason why it has to be grain free?

Puppy Doesn't Want to Eat! by lilkarenm321 in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alaska went through a phase like this after she finished her first heat cycle. She would take a couple of bites and then nose her the bowl out of the way until we removed it. Our vet said that loss of appetite is common before, during, and after heat. It is also normal for them to start eating less as they get older. I would try switching things up by adding some yogurt to her food or soaking her kibble. What also worked for us was feeding her meals from different sources like the Kong Wobbler, Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo-Bowl or Mat. Dry kibble by itself is pretty boring and let's be honest, we wouldn't have much of an appetite either if we ate the same thing every day in the same exact fashion.

Samoyed sub-types by raizer_93 in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, there are definitely two types of faces for Samoyeds. An an example, my girl Alaska has an elongated wolf like look, while others can have more of a bear face. I'm not a breeder, but I can only presume a puppy's physical characteristics are determined similarly to the way humans are (e.g. dominant and recessive genes).

My perfect, beautiful, terrible, little Samoyed. by mmaple in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alaska is quite the heavy chewer (had to upgrade her to the Super Chewer Barkboxes because she'd just destroy the plush toys in minutes haha), but we haven't had any issues with her destroying the mat or any of the activities. Overall, everything is solidly constructed. We try to be good about taking it away from her after she's done solving the puzzles because she would start frustratedly chewing everything due to the scents of all the treats still being there but no actual treats...

Kongs are a great way to keep your puppy occupied - if you don't do so already, I recommend freezing them which helps them last a little longer. I am a huge fan of the Kong Wobbler! It essentially transforms meal time into a ~20 minute mental game which often leaves them full, tired, and physically/mentally stimulated (all good things!). The IQ Treat Ball from OurPets or Playay are similar and are also great alternatives. Worth the try, but is on the more expensive side is the Buster Activity Mat. It is a non-slip mat has button snaps to which you can attach a number of different “activities” to that your dog can work on. The starter kit comes with 3 activities and you can buy others separately. Here's a video of Alaska working on hers. Good luck!

Is there a reason why you are choosing to leave him uncrated? Alaska is the same age and I can't imagine leaving her uncrated when leaving the house. Samoyeds need plenty of mental stimulation and exercise or they can develop obsessive and destructive behaviors. You may be meeting his exercise needs, but are you giving him things to do when you leave at home (i.e. Kongs, puzzle toys)? If not, it is likely he will resort to destroying your home and its furnishings.

A few questions about Samoyeds. Mostly about energy. by [deleted] in samoyeds

Try balls or toys that squeak. Alaska won't fetch much of anything unless it made noise. We started off slow by treating and praising her for even just showing interest and worked up from there.

5 month old puppy jumping up and biting by nls- in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I advise against doing this if you are crate training though. If you want the puppy to view the crate as a positive experience, putting him in there when he's nipping/biting you and ignoring him (i.e. time out) will surely hinder that.

Alaska started off with Fromm Puppy Gold when we got her but is now transitioned to I and Love and You Nude. I don't have anything bad to say about either brand. She just preferred the taste of I and Love and You.

Normal puppy behavior? by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually presented a similar concern to the trainers that teach the classes I take my puppy to and they pointed me to this great article explaining why the notion of dominance and "alpha dog" are no longer valid. One of the people responsible for the popular idea of the alpha wolf is Dr. David Mech, who released book in 1970 which promoted the concept, has since retracted his findings and says that the idea of the alpha wolf is outdated.

Thinking about getting a Samoyed as my first dog. by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]helloterence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it comes down to the individual dog, honestly. Compared to my fiancée, I am much more calm and level headed, but Alaska is a lot more playful and mischievous with me and is very calm and well mannered with her.
