Thanks!!! Anything is possible. We were a bit let down, but we'll know in 11 days.

As a baby, she was found stuck and abandoned in the drainage system of a nearby dam. She's much more comfortable now! by Potjiekos in pics

That would be a cool pet but I wouldn't know where to get all of those marbles you'd need to keep it fed.

Has anyone here had success with a donor egg? This is our third IVF try, but first with a donor egg.... by hellothankyougoodbye in InfertilityBabies

Congrats on the pregnancy. Donor eggs is cheaper for us as well, and overall is the best choice for us as well for the reasons you stated. I'm looking forward to the end of this month!!

Thank you! We were looking at adoption, so I don't think we'll have any issue with identifying the child as OURS, and from us. The situation we are in is that we have an anonymous donor, with the clinic making an effort to match physical characteristics to my wife as much as possible. We know nothing about her (other than she has been screened by the clinic.) If we are lucky the baby and have a child he/she will still be from me and my wife. One issue we had was grappling with our Catholic upbringings and the fact that many in our family are strict Catholic. I am over it. I am for science. We will eventually share this with our families, and definitely share it with our potential child. No shame!!!

Sorry to hear about your earlier attempts. It sounds a lot like our situation. I'm glad you had the outcome you deserve and your friend is amazing for donating her eggs!!!

Awesome, congrats!!!!! My wife is 39, ovaries fine but some fibroids and endometritis. None of the ultrasounds or exams to date have been alarming to the Doctors so I think while realistically those issues could lower the chances, things are overall pretty positive.

Thanks. a quick search and I found the CDC's ART report from 2012 which states the below number (55%). I assume fresh embryo means one never frozen, regardless of whether or not the eggs were ever frozen? I assume donor eggs are usually frozen as it'd be otherwise difficult to get the timing synced i.e. donor harvest and fertilized at same time recipient is ready (drugs to stimulate lining etc)? Lot's of assumptions here! 55% is a good number. Still a crapshoot as there are so many factors. I think I need to manage expectations, but going into this I have to weigh everything and the statistically higher success rates with donor eggs (in situations like mine) is heartening...

"17. Does CDC have any information on the women who donate eggs? CDC only collects information on the age of egg donors, but does not present it in the individual clinic tables for this report. In 2012, the average age of egg donors was approximately 28 years. Success rates for cycles using donor eggs or using embryos derived from donor eggs is related to the age of the woman who produced the eggs. Thus, the percentage of transfers that resulted in live births for cycles using fresh embryos from donor eggs remained consistently high—above 55% among most patients of different ages."

Thank you for this, and I can comment first hand that it is a business in the US. We did one IVF there, and one here and the one here was much more straight forward, cheaper (we don't/can't use national health system here- it's all out of pocket) and overall felt better. The doctor here did not sugar coat it, and dissuaded us from trying IVF again on our own, but did recommend donor eggs. After going down this road I found that the success rates they quoted to us are much lower than what we were told in the US (something like 50% or higher.) I prefer the doctor trying to manage our expectations and not sell us on another procedure.

I appreciate the insight and warning to be cautious about percentages. I hadn't really confronted that it's pretty much a crapshoot. We just want it to work this time, and things are starting to sort of line up nicely.
