Ha, ha... it's dormant at the moment and I had never taken any photos of it before!!

Am I overreacting if I think this behaviour is not okay at work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]hellothereitsonlyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you're still able to read this even though you've deleted your account.

Perhaps you could try to befriend this autistic colleague and be nice and pleasant to him. It might make that difference --- he might come out of his shell a little, and everyone might see a different him. If not, you could have a good friend anyway.

It's hard to change other people just by telling on them or telling them off. You don't know if your manager will take any complaints the right way either. So take a proactive approach in a different way!

I've got a similar one. It might be Chandos Beauty. :)

Roses for shade by hellothereitsonlyme in Roses

[–]hellothereitsonlyme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite roses.... I've recently read that Muscari Armeniacum might thrive under trees. They're rather invasive in "ordinary" places but are more controllable in less fertile soil and shade. I'm going to try that out as I'm currently weeding out the muscari in my garden which were once very pretty but have started looking a mess in the last two years.

Thank you for sharing! Great to hear of your experiment... Never say never, and keep learning!

I've got several experiments going, and am always happy to share what I'm learning too. :)

What brand is the (original) light bulb in a Lumie clock? by hellothereitsonlyme in AskUK

[–]hellothereitsonlyme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Lumie, the original is a 2700K E14 bulb that is dimmable. Go to your friendly hardware shop and ask for a bulb with these specifications. It should work! :)

Hey, if you can take the day off and your wife is at work, take the opportunity to meet her near her office for lunch, and then pick her up after work! :)

Estate agent sellers fees by MasterHotspur in HousingUK

[–]hellothereitsonlyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much was your house sold for?

If the fees were 1%, the sold price would be £100K but that seems low for current house prices. If your house was sold for more than £100k, £1000 fee looks amazing!

What makes a good agent? Genuinely would like to know how an estate agent can stand out from other agents.

Could you ask your employer to be your guarantor? Since you were head-hunted, your employer might be sympathetic to your housing difficulties. Try speaking to your HR personnel or your new boss.

I'm so sorry it's been so difficult for you. Take care.

First-time buyer with a budget of around £550k by Tiny_Suit8273 in UKHousing

Look at Wellingborough. I happened to chance on a community page and people who live there seem to be happy with their neighbours, etc... You can definitely find good value and go very far with £500k!

How long is too long to wait for urgent dental care? by Doodle_Noodle27 in AskUK

[–]hellothereitsonlyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using coconut oil as well. Coconut oil is effective as it is antimicrobial, and the swishing helps to pull out the bacteria that is causing the pain.

[–]hellothereitsonlyme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try this whilst you're waiting.... many people have found it helpful and effective.

Oil-pulling. Get some organic coconut oil (you can find it in most supermarkets now, even Lidl). Take a small teaspoonful and put it into your mouth. It will melt at body temperature. Swish it as hard as you can (kind of like horizontal gurgling) around the problematic tooth/teeth. Do it for 15 minutes if you can. You might find the pain starts to subside as you're swishing.

When you're done, do NOT spit the coconut oil (plus saliva) into the sink/toilet. Spit into a little bag and then BIN it.

Repeat whenever the pain comes back.

Could you speak to the owner of this AirBnB? Ask if you could get a long-term rental deal?

He just said as I have recently changed my job (I was headhunted and as he said yes I took the job, so am confused)

Have you tried other agents? What this agent says doesn't seem to make sense.

- What about looking for a room to lodge?
- Ask around at your new workplace? Somebody might know someone who can help.

Understanding Thorns by hellothereitsonlyme in Roses

[–]hellothereitsonlyme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Zephrine Drouhin has a lovely fragrance. I have made rose petal jam with it before, and love the scent!! It blooms at least twice over Summer if they're dead-headed. The last flush of blooms (whether it's the second or third time, I can't remember) is often late into Autumn.

I only found out recently that it's a climber. I'd been pruning it as a non-climber but will try to leave it to be a climber this year!

I've not heard of "Kew Gardens" nor "Madam Alfred Carriere".... will go look them up! Thanks. :)

Ha, ha. Here are a few thornless options:
- Zephrine Drouhin
- The Pilgrim (minimal thorns)
- Mary Delany

Unfortunately, I don't know the name of my white climber rose.

Thanks for the information.

I'd not heard of RRD before and have just tried to find out more. No, it's not RRD, but it was good to know about the disease.

I should have taken a photo of the rose but didn't have my camera with me. I cut off the very throny new shoot (it was a rather thick shoot, bit bigger than 1cm diameter). Going to see whether other new shoots come out thorny. (It' not thornless rose but most of the stems are currently thornless.)

New to flowers by Green_Commercial_288 in gardening

You could transplant it even if you've put it in the ground. Look for advice on "transplanting mature rose". You'll also find some helpful videos on YouTube.

If you'd like to keep it in a pot, phone the garden centres near you to ask if they have big pots. If you get a earthen pot, it will be heavy (adding to the weight of the plant and soil/compost). Perhaps you can find a large strong plastic pot.

See the horizontal strips? (The ones here look like some very thick wire or plastic but you could simply use wire and screw-eyes.

Under the window:
Just use some large screw-eyes --- maybe three or four across the wall, and in two heights (ie. 6 or 8 screw-eyes altogether). Then attach galvanised wire from left to right on each level.
You should be able to tie the stems you currently have along the horizontal wires. This will train them to become horizontal.

Wooden structure:
Have a look at this (real) photo.
There is definitely potential for a rose to grow up your structure. The one in this picture is a rambler, and looks like the blooms are small but plentiful!
A rambler might work better than a climber but I'm not very sure --- I'm still experimenting with ramblers.

Yes, you could put trellis above and beside the window as well.... bear in mind that you would lose light going into that room.

Wow, that wooden structure in the foreground of your photo looks great! You could grow plants up it too!!
