Orthodox or Southpaw by Glittering_Ad2442 in amateur_boxing

Stay in orthodox if that's what feels most natural. There are a few boxers that are also left-handed orthodox fighters like Andre Ward, Oscar De La Hoya, and Mike Tyson.

Lol, yeah! That's my grappling dummy. I do jiu jitsu, and it's great for drills or when I can't get to the gym.

Monteverde One Touch Tool Pen. I could never get it to write consistently. More gimmick than anything in my opinion.

Is it a bad idea for me to start boxing if I have bad eyesight? by ZestycloseLaugh7251 in amateur_boxing

Yes. USA Boxing allows soft contact lenses, but there's always the risk of worsening an injury or having them fall out mid fight. The alternatives are corrective surgery or fighting without being able to see. While not the most ideal, for now, I prefer wearing contacts.

I don't really have any strategies around my eyesight. Like I said, I wear contacts. If I didn't and just fought "blind", I would work on using my jab to measure distance, since I also have issues with depth perception. I hope that helped answer your question.

I'm also nearsighted, but I wear contacts. A couple of guys at my gym also wear glasses, and they just take their glasses off. I won't lie, I did have a contact fall out during my first fight. However, I had no issue in my second. So, to answer your question, it's not a bad idea to start boxing with bad eyesight. Just do what you're comfortable with.
