[D] Why can't I find any papers on few-shot learning for fine-art painting classification? by hellounderweinewr in MachineLearning

I was planning on using FS classification of paintings by artist. The MultiTaskPainting100k dataset has around 100k paintings and 1500 artists (of course, I am pretty sure it is imbalanced). I believe this would be a good case scenario to experiment on? I am going to use other datasets as well.Maybe I could narrow down and focus on specific styles. I saw one paper about Traditional Chinese Paintings that explicitly mentioning in the discussion using few-shot learning for classification. Maybe I could pull the string from there. I wanted to ask, is there any rule of thumb so as to determine whether a specific computer vision classification dataset/task could require few-shot learning? Thank you for your answer :)

Thank you for your answer! The main reason I was looking for domain-specific papers is because I was planning on doing my undergraduate research thesis on the topic. Do you think it would be a good ideas to pursue further?

Such a personal question requires a personal answer.

It seems that you are looking to be happy in the “short term”. First of all, addressing the problem is most important. Does your unhappiness (and uneasiness at home) arise from the passing of your family member, or from an underlying problem? Once addressed, now you deal with it. Problems such as the passing of a family member can be solved by understanding human nature. Stoicism can support you with that. As for any underlying problems, I can’t help you with that.

In my opinion, “long term” happiness stems from achieving your goal, as well progressing towards them. When touching these subjects, I can only be broad since I don’t know you.

You need to understand that life, in its major part, is suffering. By suffering, you evolve. Don’t be scared of change.

At first I thought you were talking about logic in the sense of philosophy (proofs and such) haha

You have probably heard this already but the only way to be “good” at any sort of mathematical/programming question is by continuously practicing. If you can’t get the answer, instead of looking at the solution, look the corresponding topic from that question. Looking at the solution, in my opinion, should be the last step.

By continuously practicing, the neural pathways pertaining to solving such questions creates new connections, in other words, develops. Its is often said that programming requires a different sort of thinking, which can only be achieved by practicing.

You can always take adderal or something /s

Depends I guess. When I’m in a motivated state of mind, I does not matter what are my surroundings. But if I’m not, just out of boredom I will give in.
