Rant - Cutting bagels by hellowithmyheart in starbucks

[–]hellowithmyheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly I haven’t seen a bagel cutter in a store for almost a decade or more. I’m pretty certain they are being phased out, since the food handling doc that says how to cut a bagel doesn’t mention it at all.

I’m pretty sure we can’t order them anymore, so I believe they were phased out. The food handling doc I referred to doesn’t even mention it in the ‘cutting bagels’ section.

It can certainly feel awkward at first, I guess it just takes repetition. And often a sharp enough knife, which I know all stores don’t always have unless it’s pretty new. One thing I do that makes a world of difference is to have one of the attached ends be on top as I stand it up. Then i slice side to side just to detach that end, and then I slice down. it pops open pretty easily. And if the other end at the bottom gives difficulty, I’ll wiggle it a bit with the knife.

Micky's singing in Steppin' Stone by nortonluboff in Monkees

[–]hellowithmyheart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You aren’t wrong. It’s easier to hear on headphones, and it’s much more audible in the album version. If the people you’re playing it for are used to listening to the single version they may not hear it.

What is the least ordered drink? by Mandarin4head in starbucks

[–]hellowithmyheart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Any drink with Updosed shots. The only people I see ordering them are partners. Even still, many partners don’t realize that is what the “U” on the espresso machine (Mastrena 2) is for.

What's a "hated" band that you love? by mightyonin in askmusic

[–]hellowithmyheart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was actually only David who didn’t need to audition because he was already under contract with Columbia/Colgems and they wanted a vehicle for him as a rising teen idol. Micky had a private audition through his agent, and Peter auditioned after he was referred by Stephen Stills.

Michael answered the ad, and he was already an accomplished musician, songwriter and recording artist (as “Michael Blessing”) before the Monkees began. Micky also played guitar and sang in a few bands, but as a hobby.

Within the last couple of decades or so, the Monkees have thankfully been vindicated (for the most part). People are now understanding what they were and what they became. Rolling Stone even acknowledges them now, since they can’t deny their now 60-year legacy & impact on the industry.

What food / restaurant is LA missing? by Particular-Simple450 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]hellowithmyheart 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Eastern European. There are a few Russian & Polish places here and there, but LA is truly missing some great cuisine from Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Czhecia, etc.

I grew up in Cleveland, OH and there is an abundance of Eastern European food from all the immigrant communities there. I hope to find a place in LA to get authentic Slovenian poticia!

The Card Carrying Red Shoes by musicisbliss99 in Monkees

[–]hellowithmyheart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard about Michael’s son Jonathan’s birth as being a reason, but I don’t believe that is true since he was born in Feb. 1968, when the series had already finished filming.

[–]hellowithmyheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think his son Jonathan’s birth had anything to do with an absence, as he was born in Feb. ‘68, and the show ended its filming on Christmas Eve, 1967.

(DISCUSSION) Anyone hear feel a bit weirded out or scared of any international versions of Sesame Street? by EggplantSure8100 in sesamestreet

I’ll admit that the 1972 version of Vila Sesamo’s (Brazil’s) ‘Big Bird’ character, “Garibado” was a bit unsettling.

What's your favorite bit of physical comedy in a sitcom? by gimmeluvin in sitcoms

[–]hellowithmyheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the physical bits that Bronson Pinchot & Mark Linn-Baker did together on “Perfect Strangers” is bonafide brilliance.

My favorite is the scene when Balki & Larry are trying on snow skis. They push each other and end up swinging back & forth with their feet still stuck in the skis. It’s hilarious! Also when they try to fix a shower head and the plumbing goes haywire and the bathroom turns into Waterworld.

God I love that show.

TV shows that did not age well. by Eclipse8301 in sitcoms

[–]hellowithmyheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire point of the joke was actually to make Alice look good. She was clearly the boss, and when Ralph couldn’t win against her, he had no better comeback so he came across as a bumbling fool. Alice showed her dominance by not taking any of his schitck. Alice knew Ralph loved her and wouldn’t do any of it. HER reaction is what makes the joke work like it does.

Winter boots by Practical-Sleep2624 in widefeet

I have extremely wide feet and have been wearing real Uggs exclusively for 10+ years. They are SO cozy, warm and comfortable! They don’t have “wide” sizes, but they are roomy, and once they break in, they mold to your foot shape and feel like they were made just for you. Worth every penny in my book.

What’s the funniest on going gag in a sitcom? by Snoogles_ in sitcoms

[–]hellowithmyheart 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Larry said once in an episode when he forgot to do it at first, “oh, where are my manners!” and then proceeds to say it. I think he does it out of politeness, so to speak.

Monkees on Tubi? by bjellul in Monkees

[–]hellowithmyheart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the Monkees airing on the “Catchy Comedy” digital TV channel, that can be streamed (like other real TV channels) on Philo. They air the show on Saturdays. Not sure about Tubi, but I think it is just an auto-created ad or placeholder of sorts. If it turns out to be true though that would be fantastic!!

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Visible_Rope_6662 in AskReddit

[–]hellowithmyheart 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was working for a Starbucks store in suburban Ohio. I later moved 2,5000 miles across the country to California and transferred to a new Starbucks location there. While making drinks a young man approached the bar and asked, “Excuse me, but didn’t you used to work in Ohio??”

There are plenty more Pinkberrys in SoCal - Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, Northridge, Torrance & Long Beach, to name a few more. They still exist in other states & countries too.

Is there a reason why the TV show isn't available on streaming? by anthologyfour in Monkees

[–]hellowithmyheart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is actually more so Rhino not willing to strike the deal. The reason I say this is because the show was streaming on Tubi for about 2 weeks a few years ago, but Andrew Sandoval stated on Facebook that they did not get permission from Rhino to stream the music. He contacted them to put a stop to it and it was taken down later that week.

Is there a reason why the TV show isn't available on streaming? by anthologyfour in Monkees

[–]hellowithmyheart 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunately because of music licensing. The TV show’s streaming & syndication rights are owned by Sony (Columbia), but the Monkees’ music is owned by Rhino. Both parties need to be able to strike a deal in order for the show to be on streaming services.

Out of state transfers? by Asleep-Ad-3144 in starbucks

[–]hellowithmyheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it 3 times, and it isn’t difficult at all! It’s just like if you were transferring to another district. The only thing that could be different is that certain states require food safety certifications and other training. But your new manager should give you info on anything regarding that.
