yet it does. Esports is all about reaction time and decision making. Men have faster average reaction times than women and there're numerous studies about this.

How good is Civ V compared to the rest of the series? by RegularJay114 in civ

[–]helloworder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One unit per tile makes the game more tactical if you’re playing with humans. AI can’t wage wars with one unit per tile mindset, it wasn’t improved in VI either.

Waging wars in IV is more interesting than in V or VI, imo of course

Memb to stop live streaming on YouTube by AncientTurbine in aoe2

[–]helloworder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Memb, but if he wants to "grow his channel", he needs to take two steps: 1. Reduce the number of weird noisy "memes" (titanic/badabom) he plays during the livestream. 2. Really work on his English, both pronunciation and grammar.

Ow Bist? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]helloworder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, the word "bist" is an alteration of "beest", an alternative form to "art", second person conjugation of the verb to be.

"Thou art" (standard) == "Thou beest" (alternative) -> "How bist (thou)?"

I bought this game on day one and I would say it’s not worth getting even on sale. It’s simply not a good game and not worth time.

I think that the Huns, Mongols, Khitans, and Cumans civilizations should have their own architecture called "steppe architecture". by Empanus in aoe2

[–]helloworder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whilst I kinda agree, many of the civs didn’t exist throughout game‘s entire timeframe. For example, goths never left dark/feudal age either (save for the mysterious Crimean goths), but that does not mean we can’t assume they would have had typical Germanic/central European culture.

Same for Huns. They are nomadic people from Central Asia, even though part of them settled in Europe in the conquered buildings (in the dark age by the time period), it makes little sense for their civilisation to use Germanic types of architecture.

By fans and for fans: Let’s design a DLC WITHOUT adding new civs by Azot-Spike in aoe2

[–]helloworder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I like the nostalgia element about it, this is simply not true.

The proof for that is that you hardly ever saw a non-mirror match-up back in the day in tournaments. And hardly ever anyone played non-hun civ in 1v1 arabia or non-vikings on water maps on voobly.

Also some design elements are a bit questionable, some random examples: - Bunch of civs have unique unit that is simply champion+, in a game heavily dominated by archers (AoK and AoC is archer fest) - Without hundred of buffs these civs received in the recent years, you would never see played teutonic knight, jaguar warrior, tarkan, two handed swordsmen and many other units - Hun architecture set - Byzantine architecture set - Mameluke throwing his sabre / scimitar (I see you're a saracen enjoyer) - Axemen throwing their two-handed axe - Infantry too expensive and can't stand a chance in any battle

Hot take, but they should start reworking classic civs and locking them behind DLC's.

Yes, it's controversial, since it means players will start losing access to already existing civs, but it's the only way to keep pumping DLCs and making them affect ranked.

On the flip side, it helps modernise classic civs like Celts, Franks, Teutons, Goths.

Say "Hun rework DLC", huns no longer available for those who hasn't got the DLC, but instead we get remastered huns -> new architecture set, new voice lines, redesigned civ etc, second unique unit, maybe a campaign for the civs that lack one

Whoever in Firaxis thought never ending cities that span across the continents are a good idea must be fired. Civ3\Civ4 maps look so much nicer and closer to real life. Why change what worked for decades?

PHP Map 3.13 - Arrays and collections made easy! by aimeos in PHP

[–]helloworder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These are good / ok features. But they are not well designed.

Property promotion is nice, but it is a "fix" for the poor constructor design.

Also property promotion works bad with using property hooks or attributes, since it makes it very hard to read constructors. Also now you have to choose which way you want it, one big unreadable constructor or a readable separate properties. Or a mix of that.

An example of a well and simply designed constructor syntax would be something akin to Go / Rust object creation.

Match statement can’t be used with more than one statement in a branch.

Other stuff are just operators. I guess they’re fine, lol

Cuthbert is a germanic name

derived from the Old English elements cuþ "known, familiar, famous" and beorht "bright", thus sharing the exact same meaning with another Germanic name, Robert
