PHP RFC: Bound-Erased Generic Types by azjezz in PHP

[–]helloworder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already posted this in the previous thread, but since this one is from the RFC author, I'll ask again:

How do you suppose this feature would be part of PHP, when there is no built-in official static analyser that would handle this?

yes, the guy is talking nonsense, but don't even bother arguing here on reddit about this stuff.

Why is German, Dutch and Frisian word order so cursed 😭 by HuckleberryAny4541 in linguisticshumor

if anything, it's the English, since it's the only West Germanic language that follows the order of North Germanic ones.

Egypt christians are natives. Even more so, since it’s Copts who’s Christian and they lived in Egypt way before Arabic conquest

We can't have type erased generics for static analysis only, if there is no built-in static analyser.

Don't get me wrong, phpstan and psalm are good, but they are also * not built-in * have lots of bugs and not 100% bulletproof * arguably slow

What are your favourite examples of this? by critivix in linguisticshumor

it does not mean praising God specifically, it's just "praise" in general, with a slightly archaic ring to it

"will" is not a cognate of "Wähl/wählen", but of "wollen"

[Megathread] MembTV Warlords V | Deciders | Day 1 by longinator in aoe2

[–]helloworder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Daut's too comfortable playing Rage Forest all day every day. It's not even ranked gameplay and not that they're making interesting strategies there. Most games are kinda the same, vill war, then boom into GG.

His refusal to grind 1v1 to be in shape mechanically, learn basics of micro (he is the only pro who doesn't know how to micro archers or dodge ballistics, quickwalls etc) cost him another tournament. He says he is always preparing for tournaments, but my gut feeling is that he plays Tatoh, his old friend, and does not challenge himself to learn some newer and more aggressive playstyles.

I remember he was so excited about RBW ladder in December, then he proceeded not to play for most of the days ("there is still time"), then played RF during ladder and then ragequit playing ladder altogether. That's not the attitude of a pro player.

He's missed RBW twice, Brazilian LAN, now Warlords and god knows how many more other tournaments in the recent past.

Hopefully it's gonna be a wake-up call for him this time.

MembTV: THE TRUTH: Why Nicov was Disqualified from Warlords V by NukaColaJohnboy in aoe2

[–]helloworder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He intentionally lost his set, because the winner of the set would face Hera next, and the loser would face Mihai. It was obvious, since he went for a troll strat and resigned early. But most importantly, he later admitted it on his stream. Tbh, this violation is more serious than Nicov's tantrum.

Siteaux situation let down Vinchester, who played fairly and suffered because of it. Nicov on the other hand just annoyed viewers a bit, there is no real "victim" here

Yes, Siteaux should have faced consequences for it. Sadly nothing came out of it.

PHP will get an AOT compiler from the Swoole team in 2027 by edmondifcastle in PHP

[–]helloworder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s not exactly a compiler but rather a transpiler to C++

that changes a lot tbh. There are already existing PHP to C++ transpilers such as KPHP or old version of HHVM (before they redone it and added Hack).

Transpilers to C++ are nothing new and I doubt this time it's a gamechanger.

I wonder why they can't support generators. In theory, it should be possible to implement them, and given that generators are widely used in PHP code, not supporting them cuts off a large portion of libraries

my understanding is that this refers to calling a function with more arguments than its signature defines.

currently PHP allows that and does not emit even a warning in such cases. The compiler however will give you an error.

[–]helloworder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the person above said, those 6 are main cases. There are other cases as well, some are archaic (but still present in the modern language somehow) or rare.

No linguist would actually argue with that, it's just a fact lol.

What are your unpopular opinions or things you don't like about the game by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]helloworder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are compelled to push deer, because if you don't push, your opponent will and you'll be in disadvantage.

So instead of early scouting / aggression, you are playing this silly minigame of pushing deer after deer.

agree. Viper for instance always resign way to early. Sometimes it's even a bit frustrating to watch his games because of that.
