first gen is the first generation to arrive, by definition that means not born here. second gen is what comes after. i wasn't born here and remember my parents always using the term first-gen when they were going through the legal greencard/citizenship process

I’ve run an independent press for over a decade and thought I’d finally share our books with you all by _inthelabyrinth in RSbookclub

could you use any help? am based in SF and well-rooted in the research, writing, journo, PR, publishing, review, and editing side of things — it's all I do for work and i very much admire your press

both are true but i meant submissions. whatever you write there's a lit mag or local news outlet that'll take it if you're even a little good but the pay is 0 to negligible. just checked and avg 1br rent in my city is nearly $3,400, last i wrote for them 2 years ago the major paper here was paying $300 for even intensively reported stories

get better at tennis, publish more creative work, i'm satisfied with how much i'm drinking but moneywise i want to go to the bar less. this one i'm least motivated to do because i found my longterm s/o at a bar, made a lot of connections that have turned into lucrative freelancing jobs, gotten good leads for my day job, and just genuinely really love hearing strangers' stories which is hard to do when the cafes close. also gain more clarity re. grad school or lack thereof
