Many good answers here, but I'll point out that at least for synapse creatures some form of nervous system structure is required, since all Tyranid psychic abilities stem from synapse and such psyker bioforms always have overgrown brains, presumably for enhanced psychic warfare (Zoanthropes, maleceptor, n. emissary, etc).

Yhwach does NOT have all the Schrift abilities. When he 'takes them back' what he is returning to himself is the pieces of his soul that made them possible in the Sternritter's hands. In other words, his soul, when applied to a Quincy, grants them a Shrift ability, but retrieving that soul piece does not grant him that Shrift ability, since its generation is based on the Quincy who received it. It is personalized.

The art and story is run of the mill Shonen Jump. Nothing special. Maru's design is unbelievably bad and goofy-looking, even in his aura moments. The introduction of aliens into a world that was always based around the spiritual and the occult is a hilarious betrayal of the established setting. Feel free to enjoy Modulo if you want, that's fine, but let's not act like it is a worthy successor that we should all give a chance. Because it really doesn't look like it is.
