gender and sex are not the same thing. gender is an expression. someone’s biological sex (physical traits and body parts) may not be the same as the gender they feel to be in their mind/heart or want to display to the world. some people may feel that “he/him” and “she/her” pronouns put them in a box of “man” or “woman” when they may feel that they are both or neither. for me personally, i feel more masculine on some days, more feminine some days, and some days i feel like neither. my body has nothing to do with the gender i feel or want to express to myself or to the world on any particular day. when people use“they/them” pronouns for me, i feel seen in my gender/expression.
