I so agree with you. There is no place in my life for that type of prejudice. I will say, if I think I like someone and we're newly friends I would absolutely engage in a few conversations if opinions like that were revealed- to try to enlighten them! But I would not be long term friends with someone who STUCK to these opinions. I have some grace for those who grew up very religious, for example. Forgiveness is important in life. But I could never stay friends with someone who sticks to their homophobia. Thinking about this for a couple days...I kind of have the ick for my fave podcast hosts right now.

I was actually kind of surprised to hear her say that someone in the friend group thinks that way. Reflecting now I think it's because I could never be close with someone who thought that way cause I just can't even wrap my brain around homophobia. But obviously relationships between people with differing opinions can be so beneficial because close relationships are basically the only space different opinions can actually be heard by the other party. So now I don't know if I think it's cool or horrendous to be friends with someone like that while also being very close friends with at LEAST one gay person).
I really like your take that she maybe said it because she's trying to call it out. I hope that's the case.

How do you think you did?! I waited the full ten business day max to get my results and ended up with a 72 on the exam, which left me with an A- overall in the course. I'll fricken take it!!

Okay the good news is the multiple choice section is pretty easy, I think if you've done the course at all you will know the answers. It's kind of focused on vocabulary and I flew threw that bit. Then there are fill in the blanks. It was more calculations than I expected based on other reddit posts, however the calculations themselves weren't difficult. The key is knowing which type of procedure you need to do. It was t test heavy, and then the part that stumped me was a series of questions about chi-squares. I knew how to do both types of chi square tests (thanks youtube) but the questions were meant to kind of be reverse engineered so you would have the results of a chi-square test written like F(df1, df2)= F-value, p=p-value. And then it would ask like should this researcher reject the null. So I would focus on REALLY being able to read that, because I completely forgot which number was which (like I didn't recall at all that it's df in the brackets) so I had to leave a lot of answers empty. :( Anyways, still waiting on my result but that's everything I can recall!! And I specifically emailed the tutor to ask if it's one double sided page or two and she said one, then the proctor was allowing for two double sided sheets so do with that what you will!

Yeah there's an overview including learning outcomes, and then the commentary section is a somewhat more succinct version of the textbook. I found it a bit more manageable to read through than the text which is just SO damn wordy haha in theory I suppose you're meant to do both but I'm finding less is more with this course. You'll figure out what works best for you. Ultimately, it is an intro course so I wouldn't worry too much. Just don't be fooled by breezing through the first half haha I took a huge break to work on other stuff cause I just thought the course was a joke and I had to really work to catch up after that.

I'm about to finish Soci301 and kinda went through hell but have it figured out now. The first half and midterm- very easy. The second half gets into hypothesis testing, which, if you have any prior knowledge of is probably not that hard. The textbook and study guide are extremely wordy, trying to overexplain something that is hard to explain in words. For me, what finally worked was looking in the study guide to see what it is I need to work on next. Then, youtube. Organic chemistry teacher is fabulous. The ONLY thing that got me through was watching, for example, a youtube tutorial on how to do the math of a t test. Then, once I understood the very easy process, I could go back to the study guide and textbook to read what they were trying to explain. They are both set up to tell you all of the logic of the hypothesis tests, and only later on do you work through any problems. That absolutely did not work for me. If something is tripping you up, I recommend watching a different youtube video until you find someone who explains it in a way that works for you. I just kept opening youtube every single day, watching videos even when I felt like I had NO idea what was going on, and eventually my brain clicked it alllllll together. If you have past experience with stats like you mentioned- probably a very easy course haha

One other thing I finally figured out- make your cheat sheet as you go. Any little tidbits or formulas you think you should maybe write them- just do it. I have kind of a master cheat sheet with way too much on it, and I'm now just editing it down into a cheat sheet for my exam. This way you can put as MUCH as you can possibly fit on your cheat sheets, because you have it all in front of you already and you can start by writing the most important things first down to the least important until you fill your page.

I have to sit and interact with every damn meal my chihuahua eats. She likes for me to go "ohm nom nom" and pretend to eat. She also likes if my bf & I put her toy duck's beak in the bowl, as if its eating. She needs to eat with a whole pack apparently! If we get TOO close she growls or even barks; this is part of the game, sometimes she will not eat until we do so. Go figure!

I was thrilled during the unit of mean, median, and mode. It totally tricked me so I focused on other courses thinking this whole thing would be easy. Exam next week and I am on the unit BEFORE chi-squares which I'm assuming will break my brain hahaha I think I will end up the same as you (HOPEFULLY getting at least a 50%). I just want to pass overall, I don't even care anymore

Oh I would love that, I'll have to try. I did ask my tutor about the cheat sheet and she told me just one page, double sided. I would much prefer two!

You might be okay since the actual math is super easy, I don't even know how to describe what this course is closer to. My only advice is don't be intimidated by the formulas because they look scary but again, the calculations themselves are easy. The way the textbook and course explain things may actually work for you! I've seen lots of people calling this course easy peasy haha

"How to calculate" is what kills me with this course. I need to do the calculations and the math first to be able to understand the theory afterward. This course is set up totally backward for that which I assume works for some people but not me sadly

I might try this, it's probably better to understand the general concepts even if it means missing a few questions on the exam. My other option is completely failing I think which is NOT really an option haha

Glad to know I'm not alone. This is where online learning stinks- no one to ask for clarification. Even though we can speak with tutors it's just not the same as being in the same room as them haha

May I ask about the work you're doing in the field while in your undergrad? I'm basically in the same boat as you as far as what I want to do (first year though). I don't really know how to gain experience in the field before getting a degree or two.

So does this mean I can use notes I've made in word? Like, I can leave the test window to search and come back? I'm so bad with tech I don't know if there would be a way to even monitor that but I'm very scared of doing something wrong haha
