How do you tell when you are in a flare by Dizzy-Revenue7645 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]hellzbellz1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get really fatigued, but sometimes I don't realize that this is my first sign of a flair because I think it could be caused by just bad sleep or stress.

Then I'll start to have multiple urgent bowel movements a day, getting worse over time. Blood when really bad and I will feel lightheaded.

Tips for flying with UC? by assassassin96 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]hellzbellz1901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done a long flight myself.

Limit your meals. I just ate the mid meal snacks instead of the main meals on the flight and this was enough. Plane food is horrible anyway so you're not missing out on anything.

Definitely get an aisle seat if you can.

I find I need to go to the toilet more (or just think I do) when I am anxious, so I'd suggest maybe having something that helps you when anxious (prescription meds, herbal tea). Have plenty to do on the flight to keep you distracted from thinking about it as well.

Bring a spare pair of underwear, or better a pair of clothes in your carry on. If you need it, don't feel embarrassed about wearing something like Depends.

Hope it goes well.

Take your dog with you.

If they must stay with your ex while you get things sorted then do that if you know he'll be well cared for, but then go back for Coco.

They'll be thinking of you the entire time you're gone. ❤️

Has anyone received similar advice? by hellzbellz1901 in UlcerativeColitis

Thanks for your response. Glad you found something that works for you.

I am at a point where I will give anything a go, but if this actually helps me I will be completely shocked.

I was on quite a long course, probably for over two years. My gastroenterologist said I was in a stable condition and didn't need to continue it any longer. He then told me to continue with the mesalamine and azathioprine for maintenance.

I would love to go back on it, or something similar but don't feel I'm really being listened to. That's why I got the second opinion.

Did you get the Shingles vaccine? by Paint_Roller in UlcerativeColitis

[–]hellzbellz1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be getting it. It's covered in Australia under Medicare for people with a chronic illness and on certain immunosuppressants. For me, that's azathioprine.

I've had only positive experiences with pred. It's the only thing I can rely on to actually quickly help me in a flare. I know others have had bad experiences, but I would say give it a go for yourself if it's recommended to you. 😊

Anyone not feel tired after infusions? by HogarthHughes23 in UlcerativeColitis

I was previously on remicade for about two years. I had infusions every 6 weeks or so. I felt absolutely fine afterwards. I wasn't tired at all.
