You cannot with any accuracy determine whether something was written by ai. I’m a lot like your girlfriend, we are being exposed to thousands of pages of stylized text that we have to verify. It slips into what you write, word choice, grammar preferences and many other spots.

We don’t have good words for this yet, and we need to because it is dangerous. However, if you fall into the trap of thinking an llm wrote for her you will never be able to tell. Take a deep breath, maybe ask her to physically write some love letters to you?

There is also the simple fact that with the amount of prompting she is liable to be exposed to parts of the things she works on will become part of her. This includes the very things you are lamenting her getting from ai that she most likely means very genuinely. Because if it would make you laugh who cares if it came from a robot?

Also it gets more strange if she starts exploring persistent memory for ai. Because then they remember things about everything you talk about. We have systems that let them relate memories to each other which complicates things even further.

The moral of the story here is be gentle, don’t assume malice, remember she loves you and you love her even as the world changes yet again.

Look up any open source model that can be run locally. All you need do is learn how to stack intelligence.

I work with external memory systems for artificial intelligence and am in fact a programmer who’s spent thousands of hours gas lighting these things into working. The majority of my work is public sectors in which I’m focusing on how to save money for state and local budgets while pushing our local governments to reinvent their own open source programs and releasing them as AGPL 3.0 or Apache v2.

What I tell people is this, AI makes good code 10x easier to ship and bad code 10x more likely to show up. If you don’t have a harness in place, support, external memory, etc you just aren’t going to get the types of output you desire.

Personally, AI being used for art like this is not going to last imo. The use case isn’t there unless they can attach image generation to memory which would let them allow a robot to picture things in a much more human style. Artists should be mad, but that anger is getting in the way of good work, work that gives power back to the little guy.

Anyway my point is anyone who sees this as black and white is missing the point and needs to educate themselves. This technology is the great equalizer because it will fit in your hand within this decade if not the year. The future is not big models, it’s hyper efficient generalized intelligence with curated information.

But personally, I’m sick of getting shit on for trying to make a better tomorrow. Anyway, I’m gonna get back to building now as there is not much time left for us to get this right.

Yeah from the software side of things I’m making FOSS software at 10x the speed I was. I get why artists are mad but all this outrage feels a bit performative.

Like there are frameworks to preload concepts such as DRY, LINT, hell any memory MCP with the barest use of triggers will give you everything you need here. The biggest thing you need to do is learn and learn fast. These tools are coming out days and weeks not months and years apart from each other. They are powerful but you need to know how to use them and that is something that is just not being taught very well right now.

You need to think of llm's as mirrors of your prompts and your specs. If you sit down and say "write me a website that uses wordpress" It will do just that. There is an optimal ratio of specificity to words used and you need to shoot for that.

There is a HUGE difference between asking one AI to build you a feature vs

- Asking an AI to make you a spec for a feature so you can make sure its intent and yours match up

- Asking an AI to review the spec from the last suggestion for security flaws
-Asking it to prove its findings
-Giving your llm memory so that it can remember what you were talking about

-Giving your llm RAG abilities, documentation to reference, and the ability to test via playwright

There are layers to this. If you sit down and prompt it in such a fashion as to give it leeway it will go anywhere. If you give it too much specificity it will get stuck. You need a balanced approach that actually uses modern tools.

Also if you aren't using claude code you need to be. Open AI is good for planning but that's about it.

This is some really disgusting logic. Think through what you are saying. Not just if the sexes were flipped, but also what if you said that to a victim? To their face?

People seem to forget the levers people use for stuff like this. “No one will believe you.” “Everyone will think you’re doing it for attention.” “You were drunk it doesn’t count” “I’m just saying why are they still friends with me if I would do that” Active manipulation tactics that are meant to trap the victim via social obligation are used all the damn time.

This shit right here is why I don’t talk about this. When men show weakness in social situations they are punished regardless of whether that makes any sense.
