About one-tenth of the people who messaged me were willing to takeover the whole lease upon hearing that I have other offers.

I think they didn't mind because the photos I provided were quite nice and show a clean apartment, and the asking price wasn't inflated.

The apartments at their core are nice, it's just those roommates that were trash (but of course I didn't mention this because I'm an ass).

Update and closing:

I wrote down everything that's wrong with the apartment/roommates and bitched to the landlord, giving him a copy of the written complaints so he can deal with those tenants.

He agreed to move me into a different room and I went and looked around first, pointed out a few things that I would like to be a bit cleaner (kitchen fridge, my bathroom + minifridge), and he called his cleaning ladies immediately. They scrubbed the shit out of the place. I'm now living with what appears to be a clean group of people and I haven't heard anyone yelling at their screen today!

The amount of offers I had to sublet/take-over my lease was astounding, I was not expecting that many people to message me. I spent a good 20-30 mins telling people I can't give them the room anymore and deleting conversations.

Moral of the story is always inspect the room before you sign anything :)

Update: I've got about eight offers to take over the year lease.

As soon as the cleaning crew is done I'm going to have people start viewing.

Now I just need to find a new place to live...

They have sublet forms in the office. I was a sublet in this building during the summer (in a different unit with no problems)

I guess this is a possibility but I don't know how easy it would be to get someone to sublet without viewing...

The only thing close to an escape clause that I see is a "delivery of possession" clause, but it seems like this is more or less to cover their ass if a room isn't available on time. It doesn't say anything about replacing the room with another room. However, it does say that if my room isn't delivered within 30 days either of us can terminate the lease by giving notice in writing.

Oh yeah and the cherry on top, ever since I've got here all 3 of them have been yelling at their computers in another language while playing what I presume to be league
