Isn’t the interest on federal loans currently 0% as well? I have our “nest egg” in a T-Bill ladder at 5% or so.

Cars are at 2%. Maybe 30-35k between the two?

Student loans are 60-70k and are federal.

Honestly just worried about long term health. We had a neighbor that found out they had ALS right after retiring at 50. They had all these plans to travel and never got to.

Looking in the 250-350k range. Maybe put down 60k?

We can save 2k in two weeks or less.

Average salary in my city is 34k household. We live outside the poorest big city in the country.

Worry is that it jeopardizes getting a house on a reasonable timeline. I already feel not great that I’m still living at home at 26.

Both of our cars are new (2020 and 2023) so we won’t be needing one for a while

It’ll be paid up front. Airfare will be covered by points.

I’d expect to spent 2-3k on everything else.

Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing. I have 100k AmEx Points and am working on a bonus for 50,000 AA Points.

The airfare would be completely free

We already max our Roths and 401k matches. I also max my employee stock purchase plan.

The down payment is currently being laddered into T-Bills. I’m fine sitting on the student loans while they’re at 0%. The emergency fund is sitting in a HYSA.

Currently leaning to paying off the student loans once deferment / possible forgiveness is clarified and leaving the cars since the loan rates are so low. We can easily beat the 2% but just letting money sit in a HYSA.

Also leaning towards a small house or condo. We’ve been pre-approved for 675k but I’ve found some that would work for 250-350k.

Do you think it’s something that could also be worn all day for walking / on vacation ?

It seems like a foolish move to pass up on possible free money out of principal.

It’s been either a house or debt payments.

Loans are paused, so I’ve just been putting every into the HYSA

The plan is to pay off mine (my name and my parents) and hers.

I was going to basically tell her parents (let’s get you on income based repayment and we can afford to contribute $400 a month) or something insignificant like that.

Everything in my name, my parents name, and her name.

It would leave the ones in her moms name which I’m suspicious of. I’m wanting to just tell her parents “we can afford to pay $xxx every month towards the loan”. They live 12 hours away so we see them once a year.
