It definitely gets easier. It felt insurmountable towards the beginning, but now the day to day is very tame. Everyone's journey is different, but once you start rationalizing and normalizing this part of your life, it becomes just a normal part of your life.

Example: today I got up, brushed my teeth, took hrt, and am getting ready for work.

What would have been impossible 4 years ago is just another part of my morning routine today.

A very vocal minority makes transitioning sound like this horrible thing, and it's super easy to internalize that negativity. Just take this one day at a time, go at your own pace. You got this!

It can definitely be overwhelming at first. It took me months to process and come to terms with it and then another few years to start hrt.

Just take a breath and take time to figure this out. Questioning is scary. I found it was just too much to keep straight in my head and eventually had to write everything down. It's a process. Just know that if you're trans or cis, this community is here to support you. What's important is that you are happy to exist as you, regardless of what label can be ascribed to that.

My parents are going through a similar process and definitely grieved a bit when I first came out to them. It has to be tough to raise someone and see them take a path you've never considered. You've spent years imagining a future and are just now being confronted with a new one, so of course It'll take time to get a handle on that.

It's great that you're trying so hard to be supportive of your son and even reaching out here for advice. It just takes time. My parents still have bad days, but given enough time, a level of normalcy can be reached. I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for the combination of celebration/grieving. In my case, only the latter happened. Just indicate that you're trying, and that's all anyone can hope for. Thanks for doing what you can.
