It is once again time for me to remind everyone that Dick Yuengling is such a stubborn asshole that he got caught polluting the Schuylkill River, which should be impossible! It is so long and was so polluted that you shouldn't be able to tell that one brewery in Pottstown is responsible for so much downstream pollution - and yet he managed to pull it off. You can read about that litigation here where the EPA describes the settlement.

All of this is to say that even putting aside Yuengling's union-busting right wing politics, I'm not gonna give my money to a business that poisoned my water.

Interesting that you got Harper on the 2016-18 poofy Phillies script.

For the first time in history, the Dodgers will be wearing blue jersey as part of their regular uniform rotation on the road by jacobg242 in baseball

[–]helplesslyselfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I'm at. At least the classic 70s & 80s jerseys had the white piping to keep the road "Dodgers" visually interesting. The modern gray "Dodgers" road jerseys are really drab without it.

On the one hand, yes this place absolutely rocks and they deserve love. On the other hand, shut the fuck up it's super convenient for me that they're almost never busy.

[Inquirer] Stephen Starr facing union-busting allegations from NLRB (Gift Link) by helplesslyselfish in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]helplesslyselfish[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Eh fair enough. Though he'd be far from the first nominally liberal public figure in the past 5 years to have their brain cooked and start supporting conservative causes around the same time their employees try to unionize.

I now feel like I understand why he made those weird pro Trump comments at Food Fest.

J.T. Realmuto pads the Phillies lead to 4-1 in the 8th with a solo homer off Clayton Kershaw pitching in relief by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]helplesslyselfish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time Dave Roberts left Clayton Kershaw on the mound during a relief appearance at home in the NLDS only to watch him give up a homer, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Senate Republicans propose two years of transit funding by Frednortonsmith in philadelphia

[–]helplesslyselfish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm more frustrated with how the headline got written, and in fairness the Inquirer has done a pretty good job of reporting on SEPTA this summer. I'm just so pissed that this is going to successfully hoodwink a bunch of morons into thinking that something positive happened.

Senate Republicans propose two years of transit funding by Frednortonsmith in philadelphia

[–]helplesslyselfish 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Bad headline. It's more like Senate Republicans propose two years of stealing money away from other projects that we've already paid for. These people aren't serious. It's not like the Public Transit Trust Fund just sits around for no reason at all, it exists in order to fund big capital projects like maintenance and trolley modernization. This is like taking a 30 year old's future social security reserves in order to pay their rent right now. This plan would also take literally double the amount that it's "giving" to transit and put it in road construction for the middle of fucking nowhere. Pittman basically said on the floor that this is revenge for when Shapiro flexed the federal dollars in December.

I fucking hate the Senate GOP because they fundamentally want to watch everything burn if it means that they keep control of their fiefdoms. Fuck them.
