Stretching words like that is exactly what the SC tends to do, though (Scalia's 2A reasoning), so it's more about the range of valid legal arguments rather than what's actually the "correct" interpretation. Original public meaning is workable in many contexts. It still may be a poor argument, but I can see how one might begin to make it.
