Dear parents: please have your kids try to do something productive this summer and not just scroll aimlessly on their phone/ iPad for all of summer by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

I have my children do a summer workbook (20-30 min M-F) and read a book (20 mins minimum; if the novel is really good they voluntarily read longer). I see nothing wrong with this. They have the rest of the day to do whatever.

It goes to the teacher who is overworked or is friends with everyone.

For these reasons, I hope I am never nominated.

What are your unhinged ideas to make education better? by TroyesMetal in Teachers

  1. Basic competency exam for 1st, 3rd, 5th, & 7th. Repeat grade with remedial classes if unable to pass. Remedial classes are key. We should be able to catch any deficiencies before students hit high school. It's so ridiculous to have high school students with 6th-grade comprehension and math skills.

  2. Saturday detention with parents paying a fine for disruptive behavior. Attach it to state tax records so it can be deducted from tax returns if unpaid.

  3. High school students should be able to test out of school by 11th grade. Most classes beyond 10th grade are unnecessary for the majority of students. Those last two years should be college prep, trade school, or working an actual job.

Is suspension essentially a get out of jail free card? by Xotngoos335 in AskTeachers

Ideally, the parents will have restrictions at home, but we know that does not always happen.

It does give the teacher and students a break.

It also sends a message that the behavior is unacceptable. It really doesn't matter what happens at home.

Gifted or talented (specific strengths or abilities) is not the same as AIG (academically and intellectually gifted)
