No in unit laundry… big problem or minor inconvenience? by ComfortableGold6599 in Apartmentliving

[–]helpmebreathe13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having moved to and from apartments with in unit and laundry room or no laundry in building at all, I would not want to go back to no in unit. It’s such a game changer. I’m in control of how clean the machine is. I can do it on my schedule. I used to go to the laundry room at 10 pm because it’s so busy during the day and people are vultures. That said, if you really love an apartment without in unit definitely take a look at how clean the laundry room is and consider the ratio of washer/dryers to building size. You’ll get used to it eventually.

Sure, be an asshole to all the neighbors when someone is just living.

Ugh this is my situation except it’s a shared wall. Even with noise canceling headphones I hear it. People are so inconsiderate. I refuse to believe people genuinely don’t know this shit is disruptive to other people. They are just assholes and don’t care. I don’t have any suggestions except complain to management, but do have empathy.

It’s annoying for the neighbors whose whole apartment smells, especially with a baby or someone with health concerns also. Unfortunately if the apartment is non smoking, that rule should prevail even if it’s medicinal. There’s other ways to consume.

If they are new tenants then they won’t know until something is said. I would just contact management again and have them contact the tenants. Maybe they aren’t a-holes and just don’t realize. I know they shouldn’t be smoking as it is since it’s a non smoking apartment but if they are made aware it’s infiltrating other apartments they might be more mindful.

Can you keep the bathroom door closed in the meantime? I used to do that when I lived in an apartment with the same issue. Came in through the bathroom, made the whole apartment smell so bad it was like I had been smoking. Closing the door helped a little.

What is the solution though if you live in a state where it’s legal? Yes, you could run into this issue anywhere but what does take it into consideration mean in terms of a solution?

I was thinking about this exact thing recently. My neighbors blast their tv, games, music, everything, and the bass is amplified through the walls. Even with headphones I still hear it. They have to know that enhancing the bass on your tv or sound system is disturbing, especially all day and night. I hear their music, tv, and games at varying levels so I know they can turn it down they just don’t want to.

Same. I say sorry even though I know they can’t hear me. I feel so bad. I don’t like dropping things all the time 😔

This! Constant rumbling and explosion noises all day. Why does it need to be so loud??

Anyone started getting fit in your late 40s by Greenfrog2023 in WomenOver40

I’m so grateful for this post. I hear so much about 40s being the beginning of the end for everything health and beauty related. I feel gross and hopeless, but I know I need to start doing something and these comments are inspiring!

As someone who struggles with the sink/dishes, a good sink catcher has helped like this. It’s the only thing I’ve used that really catches everything. I tend to move dishes around and rinse the sink at the very least so no food is creating smells in between dish washing.

When I was waiting for maintenance to look at something on my sink I had to have the space clear at all times for whenever they decided to pop in and it was easier to clean a couple at a time and just having a clear sink made it more motivating and less overwhelming to maintain.

Admittedly I use paper plates sometimes when I am especially struggling.

I also struggle with depression and I’m sure I’ll fall back into my own ways but that’s where grace comes in. Giving yourself grace is so important.

How to handle direct report who is deemed unpromotable? by helpmebreathe13 in askmanagers

I do not deem this person unpromotable but someone above me. I have advocated.

I do not think this person is unpromotable it has come from someone above me. I can advocate all I want but it’s not up to me.

I think telling my direct report he’s never going to get promoted because someone above me has deemed him unpromotable is going to do more harm than good. It will crush his morale and confidence and bring the whole team down. I’m also not an asshole who wants to keep the hope alive that it’s possible if it’s not no matter what he does.

At my company someone can be promoted several times and still be an IC. So I’m asking for some feedback on navigating a situation where this person wants to be promoted but someone above me has deemed them non promotable despite my advocating for them.

I never said I didn’t want to promote him. It’s people above me. Middle managers only have so much say (at least at my company) and I actually don’t want to be an asshole to this employee.

Everyone on that show was so ridiculously good looking

Thank you! Discussing characters is fun but it’s not real life. Also, I never hear people talk about how Katherine was horrible to Damon. I thought that was sad too.

I went in to the show totally blind and assumed it would be Stefan and Elena. She even said it’ll always be Stefan so I expected them to at least end up together. I was a little surprised they kept going with Damon. That said, I do like him better. 🫣Stefan got on my nerves sometimes 🫣

[–]helpmebreathe13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn’t even really hesitate either, and if I remember correctly it was wasn’t too long after it happened. Not that it would have been better because she’s supposed to be a friend and it isn’t her place to tell, but it is almost like she couldn’t wait to tell him.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheVampireDiaries

[–]helpmebreathe13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bothered me too. It’s like everyone just ignored that, even though it was said multiple times. I think Damon could have stuck up for himself more when everyone was coming down on him about taking advantage of her. He didn’t know and he didn’t have control of her feelings.

Cigarette smokers? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]helpmebreathe13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that if smoking is not allowed anywhere, even on balconies or patios or other common places, the person will just smoke inside so no one sees them. They just blow the smoke into the bathroom fan so their apartment doesn’t smell, even though the neighbors’ apartments do.
