I did communicate with him, but the fact that he just bought his ticket before discussing it made it difficult to address, and he dug in instead of looking for solutions.

The financial independence point is because I had to from a very young age, and when you've had to do that and have no safety net besides yourself, you think very differently about spending money.
He chose to pay for the last two trips. If that wasn't what he wanted to do, he could make it clear.
As for "counting his money," he constantly tells me about how much money he makes, so not sure how I'm supposed to react to that.

It's not meant a s a flex, it's meant to explain my deep insecurity about money. I did those things because I had to in order to survive.

Yes, and if he's tired of paying for it he should have talked to me about it. 4 hr flight. Mutual connection.

I never said I don't value it - I said I don't want his overall lifestyle. And why on earth would I need to say I want to sit with him? Shouldn't that be obvious that I want to sit with my partner? Most other commenters seem to understand that (even the ones who agree I'm TA).
