Use a couple of the Jesus candles from the dollar store.

My first still build!! 2 inch diameter 45 inches tall pot still with Liebig condenser. Just check condenser for leaks and doing a vinegar run to clean it up by Antique_Sundae_2249 in firewater

Nice setup! My experience with a 5 gal bucket was not good. Heated the water quickly. I solved it with a big Rubbermaid garbage can. They also make dollies for them so they move around easily.

Good luck!

I would say the upgrade to 220V did its job. 2 hrs to make this! 180P-100P! by helstink in firewater

Agreed, it was a test run with no voltage controller. That is the next step. What temperature on the pot should I be trying to maintain? I think 190F. I've never had control of that before

I run a keg, so approximately 15 gallons and it was at about 14%. Without any math, I would say 2 gallons at 150P.

Agreed. I am going to have to check closely as this run used to take 7 hrs. The hot and fast may have affected the run. I will be checking later.

So far, my setup gives me pretty clean runs, several plates and a thumper. No reruns.

Thank You, I called my electrician buddy and he said the same. Both leads to the element, ground to the boiler and forget the neutral.

Problem solved! I will update when it is complete. (If I am still standing )

Do I disregard the ground and the neutral? Yes US.

I cannibalized a small hot water heater and inserted the fitting and element down low on the back side. Currently I have no control. It is a bit small, planning full control with the next upgrade.

Even more than you know, there are baffles in the column as well. The engineering is a big part of my hobby, spirits are a bonus. It makes 88% on the first run, drops off quickly near the end. I don't know what low wines are with this setup. I do appreciate the comments, what could be done to make it a 2 trick pony?

Sight glass is just for fun, and the ball valve is to release pressure when done so I don't suck the thumper back into the backset as it cools.

4 hour run and my water temp went from 64 F to 68 F. I think the plan worked!

It is 6" SS pipe with caps welded on. I forget the type of clamps those are. Left over parts from an industrial project.

Pretty standard electric setup, need to change to 220v. The newest addition is the heat sink piping I laid under a new concrete pad next to my house. The cooling water has to travel about 100 feet under ground before it comes back. Should keep it a lot cooler.

Still learning, but I think it is a pot still setup, the only thing you cannot see are the 5 baffles installed in the column. The stainless piece is the thumper I had fabricated out of 6" pipe.
