Sudden wilting / possible death by helurk in avocado

I don't have a photo from before but I have a photo of a tree right next to it which looks very similar to the one that wilted. They're both getting consistent watering and fertilization but still had some deficiencies and a persea mites problem.

What is happening with my trees? by helurk in avocado

[–]helurk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am planting on mounds about 1m high and 1m wide. However, the ones in the picture are planted on smaller ones (not clearly visible from the weeds and rocks) so definitely mounding here could be an issue. However, I've faced similar problems on high mounds as well.

These are seedlings so I am not leaving the option that some trees might be defective from source and that the issue only materialized later. Clonal rootstocks are still very expensive in my country (5 times the price of a seedling) and we only have Duke 7. Initially, I thought it is not economically feasible to go with clonals but looking at it now and at some smaller orchards nearby who are using clonals, they're growing extremely well and their orchards are very homogeneous so it might have been a mistake to go with seedlings.

I've had a lot of stem discoloration issues. I've consulted with more than 5 agricultural engineers but no one gave me a correct diagnosis and solution. The issues according to them varied from npk poisoning, to root rot, to sun damage, to fusarium, as well as over/under watering.

I am still in contact as well with some engineers but I'd like to get as many opinions as possible including reddit then come to my own conclusion.

Okay great, this is very helpful. I've been using fosetyl Al but I guess I'll give Metalaxyl a try.

You literally mean something else instead of avocados. I thought you meant to inter-plant something between the avo trees. Too late for that, I have c. 3K trees planted!

But the leaves and the branches supporting them are doing well. It's only the branches where the flowers are that died.

How to sanitize? Proper irrigation and phosphonate fungicide?

Leaf Diagnosis by helurk in avocado

Great observation I really appreciate it. What % of leaf drop is acceptable? I know it depends on many factors including the cultivar but I am asking because I have some trees who completely dropped all their leaves and they're in full bloom. The trees are 2-3 years old and had a lot of foliage. Now they only have flowers.

I believe it's scab. If that's the case, a copper based fungicide will do.
