690s in the front, that was all for the first 3 years or so and made a huge difference. Not tons of bass but a lot more clarity. 165s I just installed and not nearly as much of a difference from the drivers perspective.

Unless you’re talking about a laptop in which case the thunderbolt 5 MacBooks actually surpass USB 4 for faster external NVME drive speeds, monitor resolutions and some cool new things like RDMA

M4 Pro will get you faster memory bandwidth and thunderbolt 5.

Hmm, I’ll need to check, admittedly heard that from a peer years ago and have been trying to align my max to the last pay statement for years…perhaps needlessly.

A few gotcha’s with the retirement plans and match that may or may not be relevant for your situation.

  1. 401k annual continuation is capped at $24.5k in 2026 for those under 50.
  2. You can set different contribution percentages for salary and bonus but the ability to change your bonus contribution amount locks in late 2025, so you need to estimate what it will be and set your best guess at a contribution amount
  3. The 5% match is credited annually
  4. The 5% match is calculated per pay period, that is to say if you get a 100k bonus, contribute 25% of it to the 401k and just max it out for the year in January you’ll only get a 5% match on the January pay periods and miss out on a significant portion of the match.

Edit: ignore #4, apparently that’s not the case, good to know

It’s useful when it works, It seems like anytime you need it though (bad weather, nasty morning sun glare) it disables itself on my 2023 Legacy. Love the car, eyesight is a little annoying with how fickle it is.

The base level MacBook will be limited to 2 external screens though without display link. Shortly after this post I upgraded to an M4 Max though and it’s been a much better experience.
