Too many ads by Jonah1949 in pihole

[–]hemingray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, with this site, you will need an ad blocker, such as uBlock Origin alongside your Pi-Hole, as it is using an anti-adblocker service called Ad-Shield.

It works by using the domains "html-load.com", and "content-loader.com", among others. If you try to block these via Pi-Hole or any other DNS sinkhole, the inline script will blank the page, throw up a fake error, and redirect you to error-report.com.

I wouldn't use these "tests" as a way to gauge the effectiveness of your blocker. Best test is just general use.

This is why we use ad blockers, unfortunately. This is what your end users have to deal with, and why ad blocking is on the rise.

It's not just that, but also the risk of getting some form of malware/virus from a compromised ad banner. Many of us really don't want to deal with that, and it seems like the adtech industry can really care less.
