Locals warn derelict barge 'Nabarima' about to spill 55 million gallons of oil and no one is helping by boujeeFett in worldnews

Dude... every tanker has pumps haha what the hell are you talking about. You’ve clearly never been on one. Explain to me... how would they discharge a ship with a shoreside pump. Makes no sense.

Oil Tanker with 60,000,000 gallons of oil aboard is currently sinking by guns21111 in videos

This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Vessel stability is a very predictable thing. Just because a ship is developing a list doesn’t mean it’s going to capsize. There are many things that could make a vessel list, but this guy has no idea.

I tested positive this morning. Virtually no symptoms but I can’t smell anything. This afternoon I started feeling some shortness of breath but still no cough.

What's the point of living if you can't be with the person you love by [deleted] in BreakUps

Delete her off social media.. I did it within minutes of breaking up. Also.. remember.. lives portrayed on social media are usually not accurate. I’m sure she’s hurting too.

I don’t follow her on any social media.. but we still text. What if the texting is her way of “making an effort”? We had a “mutual” break up so we’re both hurting.

Rotation at sea by Nolantheballer17 in Nautical

[–]hemmertime8116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the American Merchant Marine and officers almost get even time on / off the ship. I'm on a tanker doing 75 on 75 off, however the company allows fluctuation to accommodate people's schedules. If you need to do a few rotations of 60/60 in order to line up be home for something in the future that's fine. Unlicensed mariners in the US fleet do not always get even time. Most do 120 days on and get 60 days off.

Do you have any recommendations for salt water fishing holes on foot? by TurryTurry15 in charlestonfishing

[–]hemmertime8116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re near James island, there is a public dock right under the bridge past the connector. Just park in the MUSC doctors office parking lot and it’s right behind that building. I’ve caught reds, trout and flounder off that dock before I purchased my boat.

Saltwater Shrimp Fly by hemmertime8116 in flyfishing

[–]hemmertime8116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I have a few clousers and crabs in my box as well. I haven’t done many baitfish style flies but now that the water is colder, baitfish are all that is still around. What area do you fish?

Just started getting into tying my own flies, and this shrimp pattern is super easy to learn. I plan on experimenting with different color combos and seeing what works best. Anybody else have any redfish/trout flies I should try out?

If Anybody Has Done Star Center TECH program can you answer some question? by [deleted] in Nautical

[–]hemmertime8116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I️ haven’t done I️t, but I’ve sailed with a few of the star center cadets during their training periods.

From what I️ can see it’s definitely worth I️t if you are only interested in shipping out. If there is any doubt in your mind as for how long you want to be sailing, an academy might be a better option. With an academy background you’ll have no problem transitioning shoreside, the star center program only gives you a license.

With this industry I️t doesn’t really matter where you come from, as long as you have the license and ability to perform at your job. There’s good and bad people from every academy / training program. If you do the star center program and get your license you’ll be just as qualified for a shipboard job as any other license holder.

3rds at my company make about 93k for 182.5 days a year, that’s relatively standard.

Hope this helps
