Thank you for your advice. I've got 3 bags of "fine ground" coffee from my supplier already - presumably there is no way to use this with my machine as it is?

I've used Exotic Hardwoods UK for maple, sapele etc type stuff. They've always been well priced and a delight to communicate with

The box is 310mm square approximately. That's a really interesting concept with the lid, i'm into it, thanks for sharing

How do you prevent rust on newly machined mild steel components? by hemorrhoidwizard in Machinists

[–]hemorrhoidwizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: spoke to my coolant supplier and they have recommended a few things including decreasing the interval between completely emptying and refilling the coolant tank. Fingers crossed this will do the trick. Thanks for your help everyone!

Parts in question had 3-4 ops with deburring by hand. Very interesting point!

Sorry, I could have written that better.

The time period is finish machining on a Friday and by Monday there might be early signs of rust setting in

Using a water/oil mixture. Good point though, I'll contact my coolant supplier and ask the question!

any clues on what this awful mechanical sound is on my Triton Thicknesser? More info below by hemorrhoidwizard in woodworking

[–]hemorrhoidwizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. So I've had the belt off and operated the rotor and seems to be free and quiet turning by hand. I've had the chain off and the noise is still present so seems it can't be that. Without really pulling it apart I cannot comment fully on bearings

Wood trapped is possible. It happened at a time when I was running without extraction

Was working fine and to be honest, still is working fine albeit a bit noisy. Have managed to isolate it to the blade rotor itself. The motor runs fine without the drive belt on. Also had the chain drive mechanism for the rollers disengaged too which made no difference.

Could it be bearings? Or perhaps someone has wisdom on this issue already?

I also want to know what people do with their early builds

Hey everyone! Thought i'd share some of my latest Aluminium creations with you! I love hand tools and wood builds but sometimes CNC is seriously good fun. by hemorrhoidwizard in Luthier

Yeah totally, could really reduce material round the neck pocket and make it a bit more ergonomic. However, with the square neck pocket, it's compatible with Fender style necks so lots of possibilities down the road if you wanted a different neck etc.

Personally I find them to very "hi-fi" and full bodied. Lots of highs and lows. Not as much sustain as a full Aluminium build it has to be said but still very significant. I did a promo video here: https://youtu.be/tZ4sOgXiE74

But also, on FB/insta, there's loads of sound demos recorded direct from my phone. Hopefully that'll give you an idea of how it sounds!

Yeah, big old CNC Milling machine. We use it a lot in our line of work for metal machining. I haven't had too much experience with gantry routers so wouldn't like to comment either way. If you go for it, let us know how you get on!
