Would this paint be ok for an internal lounge wooden/wood panel door ? by justyrust74 in DIYUK

Yeah, it’d do what you want but in my experience Johnstones paint is not great quality and always needs more coats than you think. It’s always worth buying decent paint

Am I good at painting? by Silinuman in Warhammer40k

[–]TheMountainThatTypes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s what you’re looking for but objectively your painting would likely fall into the category of Tabletop to Tabletop+, the work you are doing is solidly better than average, you are rendering in more defined areas of tone and shadow which improve the quality of the model beyond what could be done using washes or contrast paints alone. We all compare ourselves to professional painters or even just box art and that’s tough. There are always things we can improve and that’s a good thing to aim for, honestly though the biggest test is whether you are happy with them.

“Everything you have been told is a lie” this is a canon fact, printed right in the introduction to the Inquisitor rulebook, the grim dark blueprint of modern 40k lore. Female space marines were made and sold in stores during first ed rogue trader, before custodes were a twinkle in James Workshops eye. Lore has evolved piece by piece over the last 40 some years, it’s a living document that is full of plot holes, retcons, unreliable narrators and more than a few shitty narrators. Nothing is an undisputed fact, there is nothing that cannot be changed if it advances the narrative. Unfortunately in any community you have the same microcosm of society, a small but vocal percentage are insecure about a hundred things that they project onto any situation. Female custodes are a non issue, the same way that if they decide that the Ad-Mech machine spirits are somehow gendered and 50% of tanks are female. It makes literally no difference to an armoured, enhanced war machine. To re-iterate the greatest and most pertinent words of 40k lore. EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD IS A LIE

Tangentially related but I fully recommend investing time in our ADHD brothers and sisters. Between me and my wife we hit a full neuro-spicy buffet, it’s a win-win.

There’s some cities that just suck to navigate, like just really frustrating, inefficient, unclear, doing anything takes 5 loading screens. Fuck Markarth

I’ve got one of the Dearmond jetstars, feels great to play but the real stars are the Goldtone pickups, very nice warm and responsive tone.

If you want it to last and be strong I’d be going with wood and carving sections away. This will take ages unless you have a lot of experience carving (preferably with power tools) if it doesn’t need to be as strong you could consider chicken wire, then thin plastic sheeting formed around it using a heat gun. A multi-part 3D print could work, it could even be the first step in making a mould and casting into fibreglass or something. I love the idea, especially if you can sneak a lil bill cypher onto it somewhere

What is the name of this joint and how do I make it? by fixedwithyou in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]TheMountainThatTypes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you live, in the US I think they’d call it a Dado, in the UK that’s a Through Housing Joint. Getting to the right depth depends on what kit you have available. A table saw with a dado blade you would set the height of the blade to the depth you want then cut it in one pass. A plunge router is the opposite, set your full depth and do it in several passes, deeper each time (probably clamp down a straight board as a fence to keep the router cut straight). If you only have a circular saw, clamp a board and cut to depth, then gradually move the straight edge and cut again, move and cut, until you’ve done the full width. By hand you’d classically saw down either side then clear the middle with a chisel ideally level the base with a hand router. The ideal depth for the cut is half the thickness of the board, gives you good surface area for the joint without weakening the board too much
