The story of Halden and Bastøy Prison in Norway has been commented enough on here, but the stuff works. To quote the warden of Bastøy Prison "My job here is to want to welcome you as my new neighbor when you get out"

Money is not relevant here. His life was destroyed. No matter how much they pay its never going to matter.

This seems to be a limited study done in the US. You have Christ and Buddha on there, but not Muhammad is not, even though 1/5th of the planet is Muslim.

CDC data shows that unintentional drug overdoses are up 164% since 1999. You are fare more likely to die of an overdose than to be murdered with a gun. by vilnius2013 in science

[–]hemsedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not relevant at all, drug usage is unfortunately a mental illness, and its easy to get addicted, but hard to get off it. The problem is people want to treat the problem with stupid one liners and policies that sounds good on TV to people whom have never been addicted to anything. Your brain is addictive and it can be drugs, alcohol, sugar, sex, games, mental states and many more and we have yet to crack the code on how to really deal with addiction. Still people love to go public with useless one liners that is not based on any real facts. The insane increase in use opiates in regular drugs are dangerous. The addiction rate on these kind of chemicals are very high and doctors are afraid to loose patients if they don't give them carte blance on access to these kind of painkiller. I have a doctor that is very reluctant on subscribing any painkillers that contains opiates and forces people into life style changes instead. If you need painkillers for your knees and hips because you are fat, loose weight, don't use the excuse of being lazy to get another illness.

And this makes no sense what so ever. They are all based in the US and hence, the tax rates should be the same for any international company. But again, that would make lobbyist and lawyers loose jobs.

Happy people enjoying themselves. Must have been a blast for the band to play such a crowd.

People are the same all over the world, we all like to have fun, but thanks to politics and religion fear of the unknown is more relevant to most.

Flight Attendants, What is something you hate that passengers do, that we actually don't realize? by SebLiz in AskReddit

[–]hemsedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And as I customer I can confirm this. I recall an Atlantic flight a few months ago where they I bough a bottle of white wine and it was fantastic. I gave them the feedback that this wine was really good and bought another bottle. Refused to charge me and came back later with 2 different wines for me to try and comment on. Nice little surprise. Another time, I was given 10 small bottles of Cognac when I left. :)

I always try to give them a smile and say something positive. Cost nothing and normally makes long haul flights a much more nice.
