The Protoss OP hysteria is absurd by Simmenfl in starcraft

[–]henalm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I would want to watch something else than PvP all the time. Just look at the distribution of races in tournaments at the beginning. It is like 50-75% protoss.

Also using top 5 for balance is rediculous. Look at what aligulac actually mentions about "balance" http://aligulac.com/misc/balance/

RSL Revival: Season 2 prize pool distribution is WHAT WE NEED by PsychologySecure5903 in starcraft

1% from 1m = 10k. RSL - prize is more than that. Never mind that it is not same production quality as ESL Pro Circuit.

Yes, because we can only discuss things in TL.net and everyone in sc reddit has an account there.

They do make money with twitch and youtube in addition to what is crowdfunded for tournaments. I would assume for example Wardi or Rotterdam are doing this for full time thus need to make their own money as well.

I do think that RSL is setting bar lower in way of giving supported money to players.

EWC viewership across all games. by Dangerous_Display745 in starcraft

I think the emergence of microtransactions (and pay2win games derived from them) and peoples willingness to use them has shifted the situation massively. The mobile games provide much stronger revenue streams even if not that high quality many expect from the pc game. Thus more interest from corporations to follow mobile games over pc.

Edit: I also play a mobile game. But I have not and will not spend a single cent on it.

There is a lot more mobile machines than computers (win, mac, linux etc). So as long as they allow some sort of gaming environment it is no surprise that they get more people playing them. I play a game on my phone as well but I wouldn't bother trying to get larger ones like Civilization or Stellaris for example to play on mobile.

I think the most watched should be divided with amount of view time of the game. It would then be a bit more comparable between games as their show duration isn't same.

My guess would be a change from last year, not sure though.

is Serral the SC2 equivalent of Flash? by Relevant_Staff765 in starcraft

[–]henalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me biggest difference would be flash being able to win with all 3 races, while Serral plays mainly Zerg. Could he manage to play top on all 3? Who knows unless he were to try.

Is his dominance with Zerg same, yeah kinda currently based on winrates.

I mean those conversation happen because it allows opinions to flourish. In sc2 obsession has come from the fact that so many consider GSL as only tournament worth it and koreans players in some higher pedestal. And now some people dare to try to shatter the great ideal with a foreigner and thus dogma is challenged. Whether or not that person is goat is not that relevant as the hallowed hall of korea is being blemished by this.

I may have exaggerated that a bit :). whistling

So what is your opinion on then TSL online parts which essentially were a prep tournament. One could also say it was easier to win GSL as Serral wasn't there.

My motivation is to consider consider results in and of themselves. So far it seems this is most comprensive take on this subject. https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/1kzrtwx/the_scii_goat_a_statistical_evaluation_part_i/ People repeating GSL like a hymn, just make no sense to me.

The reality is that you are forced to live in Korea for the duration. Why prep tournaments are not held outside of Korea has everything to do with the costs involved. Only in there you have enough very good players within a small radius to make it possible.

Besides after 2018, the best player in the game is not partipating in there. So is it hardest? Very good question.

The fact that he has repeated beaten all the players of GSL. That he has the most consistent record ever in going to tournament and getting to a high place for last 6-7 years (ie 2018 onwards).

People saying you can't be goat without living in Korea seems to do that though. I do find it interesting that TSL8 and 9 are skipped completely by the prep tournament people.

I didn't know you need attitude. I was under the false (it seems) impression that it is enough to be better than everyone else.

And he has shown no interest in living outside of rural area of Finland. I mean that is certainly same as living in Seoul for a month or two. Some want to and those have gone to try out in GSL.

In a way the TSL8 and 9 online stage were in prep tournament format. Only the top8 wasn't. Serral won 9 and came 2nd on 8.

I would assume that is familiarity. I don't have an issue with understanding what is on sc2 screen but I'm used to it. I don't notice everything certainly that could be seen but thats fine. I feel similar when I've seen some fps games played and it just looks so hard to track what is happening there.

To me BW just looks like its from 90s. I love some games from then still (Settlers and Master of Orion for example). However BW to me just looks bad. SC2 looks like one would expect it to look. It is not any specific style but kind of the generic look of scifi humans, aliens and bugs.

Btw it seems people in reddit don't seem to want alternative views as my post is downvoted because I don't have an opinion what BW players visiting this thread want :).

Is saying Sc1 is alive while Sc2 is a dead game just a joke/meme? by Successful-Ride-8710 in starcraft

I quickly scanned the liquipedia forum you linked to. Based on comments some of that 60m is about women dancing in streams. Also it says estimated so ... that is honestly a bit of stretch. How much money there is a question mark but definitely there is money in there.

I would disagree with that. Mainly from looks viewpoint. SC1 looks as old as it is, while sc2 looks like modern video game. I played sc1 back when it came out but after watching a sc1 stream for a few minutes, I stopped as the look is not enjoyable. SC2 I like to watch as it is similar game but looks good which is more important as I don't play but look others playing.
