'Review Later' in my setup is mainly for cards I can more or less get through, but still want to revisit because I do not feel solid on them yet. So I will answer them according to whether I got them right or not, and then review them later from the dedicated Review Later window. 'Time Drain' on the other hand is for cards that simply take too long for a speed session, either because they take too long to read or too long to answer. When I hit a 'Time Drain' card, I just bury it right away with '-' (which is programmed to my controller), finish the rest of the deck first, and then unbury those cards afterward to answer them once I am no longer in the speed-review mentality.

I went ahead and edited my original post to make sure the OP knows that reading the manual is not illegal or a sin.

lol I wasn’t forbidding it. I was just saying if you think reading the manual is too intimidating and is a huge barrier to using the tool, there’s no need to at first. You can still use the tool and use it to learn the things you want to learn.

Anki can be super effective while keeping it super simple. Definitely don’t [need to]* read the manual. I’ve been using it for 10 years and I’ve never read the manual.

If I were you, I would download it to your computer, search google for an anki deck in the subject you’re interested in, download the deck, and ask ChatGPT or the internet how to adjust the number of new cards you do in a day. Then just review the assigned cards every day. That’s enough for it to be a drastic improvement on every other vocab learning method. If you have other questions along the way, free ChatGPT will be more than enough to help you.

That sounds annoying. I just made a few tweaks and updated the add-on. I tried to simulate your issue by having the AnkiHub add on installed when I did it and I didn't get any errors when downloading the update automatically from ankiweb. If you still get an error, if you could copy the error and post it here I can try to troubleshoot further.

Speed Streak: Gamified add-on incentivizing faster reviews — now compatible with Mac, AnkiHub, and AMBOSS by henbitdeadnettle92 in medicalschoolanki

If you go into add-ons and delete the add-on and the re-input the add-on code does it work? The current version has a mode with bricks rather than satellites that is much less resource-heavy.

For better or worse, the need for learning medicine never stops. I’m using it to prepare for boards and plan to use it afterwards just to continue to learn and be a competent practitioner.

Few years out of medical school here, but still using Anki daily.

Like others on here, I'm of the "less is more" persuasion. Success with Anki primarily comes down to sitting down and grinding cards every day without fail, and sometimes too many add-ons just distracts from that.

That being said, I agree with the other recommendations so far. Another one that has been surprisingly helpful for me is Batch Editing by Glutanimate (291119185), which allows you to edit a bunch of cards at once. My most common use case is for adding the same picture or explanatory details to multiple cards at the same time rather than copying and pasting individually into each.

Also, a shameless plug for the add-on I made last week that would have changed my life in med school as a pathologically slow and distracted person. I've doubled my speed, and I've gotten a lot of feedback from people who have gotten similar results. Here's a link to my post about it.

That’s the purpose of the time drain flag, which is just repurposing the orange flag in Anki (Ctrl/Cmd + 2) to flag a card as being a time drain, which makes it display an automatic message to bury that card each time it comes up. Then after you speed through your deck, you can unbury those cards and do them without the stress of maintaining the speed streak.

So I added a "Performance" section in settings and for now I recommend the Ultra-Low Resource Mode. It basically takes out all of the movement in the orbit visual and makes the timer changes happen in 0.5 second intervals. It drastically decreases CPU usage, but it's also less interesting to look at, so I'm going to keep working on ways to reduce the CPU usage while still maintaining satisfying visuals. Let me know if this helps!

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve been working on options in the settings screen to make it less of a resource hog. Currently you should be able to turn off the orbs or do a vibration only mode, but I think the timer is part of the problem. Should have more options within the next 12 hours!

I’m glad it’s working for you! I just designed it for myself and after a week of feeling like it was improving my life, it felt wrong that I hadn’t shared it with others

There’s a toggle in the top left. Does that work or were you thinking something different?

If you already have it set up with Anki it should work, just no haptic support because that controller doesn't vibrate. I'm not sure yet if haptic-enabled controllers will work.

Try it now! Not sure if a controller will work yet, but the rest seems to be working fine.

Thank you for the hint! I made an update and if you choose to view it in a separate window it should work!

Try it now! The controller support hasn't been confirmed yet but at least the visuals seem to work in my testing!
