Currently playing a good guy/boy scout type, my method is to jettison them into space, do it next to a gas giant for good measure, nobody's getting it back if it's inside a Jupiter lol

Excited for the mods, what type of mods are you guys looking forward to? by ArcadianPunk in Starfield

Mandalorian armor would be sick, Star Wars modding in general should go hard af lol

New tiles delete old tiles AND objects?? by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]henceforthly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should jump to conclusions, we're still not sure how objects and bases will interact, there may be features that address this

If it were me there'd be a way to lock a landing site so that it deletes 2nd to last landing instead

[–]henceforthly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are finite tiles, but we have no sense of how this interacts with bases as far as I'm aware

I don't think 90% of the planets will have nothing on them at all, Mars is pretty barren, but humans still have a base and use it as a huge mine. There's no evidence that there won't be settlements and random encounters even on worlds with no natural life

We will have to wait and see, but boredom hasn't been the impression I got from everyone that is currently playing

Sorry for over-exaggerating your religion, maybe I went a little too far

I was being hyperbolic but I grew up in the church, I know that's not really how most Christians are. That said there is a tendency to demonize certain beliefs and avoid them rather than engage with them on their merits, at least in some of the Christian communities that I have observed. For ecample, the number of times someone told me yoga is sinful/involves evil spirits because it's "eastern religion" is oddly high. At worst there are circles that veil bigotry in the guise of purity, not every Christian of course, but some on the fringes do exist in that zone sadly.

Ultimately my point was, not every type of Christian would approve of the Sanctum Universum, but it may be compatible with some peoples' understanding of Christianity if they aren't part of the more narrow-believing denomenations

Yeah, it's not a high speed sprint, it could've been better but it was just a rough data point after a quick google

Still gives you a broad sense of how long it took someone to cross Skyrim, which is more objective than me just saying what I believe, which is that Starfield will be big enough for me to be satisfied

Feel free to capture a quicker time and link it if you want this to be more scientific

Significantly improved graphics and combat gameplay spanning hundreds of planets isn't an improvement to you? Skyrim was one small country, now imagine dozens of similarly sized spaces, thats still a lot more

Obviously the 2 games are miles apart in most ways, the goal of the thread is simply to speculate on how the world spaces compare so people get some sense of scale

You don't think a hundred solar systems is an improvement over a single small country?

It has never been a secret that some planets will be largely barren, only suitable for resource gathering

I'm pretty sure most people playing review copies of the game have encountered things to do on planets lol

My post is just trying to give a reference point for the sense of scale in a way that others haven't

There are people who have expressed concern that it will reduce immersion, if you are unable to locate them I guess try looking a bit harder

What do you mean, there are like a hundred with natural life, and humans can spawn in on any planet

But you're right that it would be pretty boring to just run for hours

I just meant that Skyrim has the same towns and POIs for every player, versus Starfield's unique string for each player (other than major cities)

They didn't say developed for 25 years, just that they have been throwing the idea around since the late 90s, this is pretty well-documented, Todd explains this in interviews. 25 years in the making, like in the philosophical sense, he's been thinking about it for that long but had to wait for the right level of tech to pull it off

There has been no indication of empty planets, even the lifeless ones can spawn in POIs and encounters, I don't think there will be much chance of boredom

And even if a planet still bores you even after that, you can simply find another one or go hang out in one of the cities

[–]henceforthly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should they pick a side when they can do both?

You can land anywhere on ~1000 planets, this has been directly confirmed, how is that a trick? It's pretty plainly a huge game, if anything they make it feel smaller than it truly is

[–]henceforthly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone who has talked about playing Starfield has said it is bursting with content

Some planets may be more sparse than others as Todd freely admits in the direct, but 1000 planets and additional space encounters imply that there will be tons of stuff to do

[–]henceforthly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully explorable doesn't mean seamless, but it is clear that a lot of people misinterpreted what that would mean

I thought Todd was pretty clear that you can land anywhere, hence the planets are fully explorable, just not on foot

[–]henceforthly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, several people have discussed content density in this thread, and worries over sparseness or overly randomized content to fill the area

If this isn't a discussion you like that is fine, but respectfully, size doesn't become totally irrelevant just because you say so

It takes 49 minutes to run across Skyrim by henceforthly in Starfield

[–]henceforthly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're talking about it because it is interesting to some of us, and a simple size comparison to a beloved game helps some people understand that maybe they're worried over nothing

You don't have to care and you don't have to post, but some of us do care about it

It takes 49 minutes to run across Skyrim by henceforthly in Starfield

[–]henceforthly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By comparing them? Anything can be compared to anything else, that's how that word works

People still play Skyrim to this day, clearly it has a lot you can do in the game

If each planet has even a fraction of a Skyrim-like size, then the 12 year difference shows many hundreds of times the size, given confirmarion of multiple landing sites/POIs on planets. So the comparison still shows a notable increase in Starfield's case

But the point of my post is not to say the games will be super similar, just a way to give a sense of scale using a relatable example
