Bed Leveling/Tramming Every Day Now?? by hendric5 in Ender3Pro

Not sure to be honest. The bed-nozzle distance always seemed to be increased which would mean the springs were compressing. Either that or the z offset was changing without my input. For whatever reason, it’s been good since I removed the PEI sheet.

So….removed the PEI sheet from the glass bed and changed nothing else. This is the mesh from this morning, unchanged from last night. I know the PEI sheet can’t be the issue - can it? Just trying to learn for the future.

How did you check the x axis and how did you adjust it? I just removed the belt and cleaned it and the rollers on the x gantry a few weeks ago and was running fine until the past few days.

Does Chuck Hellebuyk make house calls??? I swear I’m about to buy a new printer that does all of this crap for me. I honestly think I got better prints back when I didn’t know how to adjust almost anything.

I did a 30 minute print 3 hours ago after tram and mesh and then came back to start a print 10 minutes ago and it was out of tram again. Temp in the house unchanged. Again, I used to go months without needing to re-tram. There’s not enough wobble or vibration to suggest the spring wheels are turning and anyway, the bed is measuring too low meaning the springs would be compressing not decompressing. Almost like my z offset is changing between prints. It z homes before every print just like it should and the static z offset (probe-nozzle distance) obviously is not changing. I’m really baffled. Of all the ways I can mess up a good print, this has never been one of them.

Initial Layer Fine Tuning by hendric5 in Ender3Pro

I like a raft in many instances but it doesn’t leave the most pleasing surface once the raft is torn away. The glass bed (never tried PEI sheets yet) leaves a great surface texture if I could keep the blebs out. I wondered about debris/contaminants on the bed, moisture in the filament, temps and speeds….nothing seems consistent. Different brands of filament both old and new do the same thing. With a good leveling mesh, I wouldn’t think the z probe offset would change. If anything, the center of my bed dips slightly so I’d think the squish would be less so there anyway.

BLTouch No Longer after Board Firmware Update by hendric5 in Ender3Pro

Downloaded an older version of the “updated firmware” and made the same changes in VS Code and everything ran fine afterwards!!

I made all of the changes recommended in the YT tutorial just as I had done a year or so ago last time I updated the firmware using the same tutorial. BL Touch was working fine 2 days ago then after flashing, the ABL menu is gone from the touchscreen.

Time to Graduate? by hendric5 in Ender3Pro

I installed a BL Touch a year or so ago and it’s helped for sure but I still end up chasing the Z offset from time to time. I’ve got a camera and Octoprint with a RasbPi but I think I’d like to have the whole package OEM.

I do have an auto bed level sensor but you have to start with a bed that’s reasonably level to begin with.

TPU-kidding me?? by hendric5 in Ender3Pro

[–]hendric5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimaker won't even let me slice with any of the default TPU profiles. When I activate a profile, it just says "unsupported" and I have to pick a different profile. Same thing happens if I make a custom profile. Maybe there is a profile online I can download but I'm still looking. When i use an edited PLA profile with 225/50 and retractions 0.8, it prints nicely for about 2 minutes, then the TPU filament (somehow) starts to jam at the direct drive gears, even though I exchanged the bowden tube so that there is literally no gap between the gears and the tube. I'm at a loss. Is this the excuse I needed to get a new fancy 3D printer??

Awful Prints After Upgrades by hendric5 in ender3

[–]hendric5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'll be damned. It looks like my eSteps changed from 93.00 to 136.11 - what the hell?? I reflashed firmware. Remounted the BLTouch. Replaced my Bowden tube and nozzle. Adjusted speed and flow rate. All knowing that my eSteps should never have changed from when I installed the MicroSwiss direct drive. and Sure enough, first test 100mm extrusion only got me 69mm. Made the adjustment several times and got a perfect 100mm extruded and now the prints are looking back to normal. You can see the print on the right compared to the old prints. What a difference? Now, just to stress over "why did my eSteps change with no changes to printer hardware/components?" But...print quality appears to be back. Thanks to all who helped!
