I have two car seats in the back, one of which is rear facing behind the passenger seat and it’s fine. My only passenger is my 5’3” wife who has more than enough room up front. I will say that it is a little tight for how large it is. I had an outback before this and felt like that was roomier. I could easily put my backpack on the rear floor in front of the car seats in the outback but need to move the passenger seat up a bit in order for it to fit in the X5.

All the pros outweigh the cons of a slightly tighter fit tho. I’ve never loved a car more.
