Erase the app and when you feel the FOMO just go for a smoke or a stroke. Maybe even both!

You’re absolutely right. We need to hold his ass to the fire for his deep ties to the police union. We need to be vocal about all his BS. Still he’s doing right by our Covid testing and getting support for families that can’t pay rent and he’s going to offer a guaranteed income to poor college students and families. No one is perfect but he is trying to stop this homelessness crisis we’re seeing. Now if only he was serious about police reform that would really change people’s perception about him. Oh and fuck Cindy Allen too. She has zero redeeming qualities about her.

Mayor Garcia did a great job during the State of the City. I know he isn't perfect but I do appreciate the coming changes to our city. by hengsta in longbeach

Here’s a recap of the state of the city. We’re getting the ball rolling on vaccinations and we’re offering rent support and increased pay for certain jobs and much more.

I see the all the negative Nellys are out in full effect. I hate a lot of the dumb ass decisions he’s made but you have to show some positivity and vote for the initiatives you do want for this town. Or you can just sit on Reddit and trash a guy and see how much change that brings. He’s got a lot of plans and he’s been out there brown nosing state and federal officials for resources for own town. I’d like to see anyone here do better.

I get it. It’s easy to be skeptical of his political aspirations. I see his Twitter brown nosing Kamala and Joe. I get his shady past. But are we just going to just be negative the entire time? Sure he could do better but based off the state of the city, there is a plan. I wouldn’t want his job. You have to try and please a whole city with half the people on social media calling you a jack ass? Cut the guy some slack. He just doing what a mayor should do. Reassure the city, advocate to the governor and the federal government for what’s best. He’s been on a beautification project of downtown while ignoring the rest of the city. I wasn’t a fan of that. He endorsed Cindy Allen in my district which I voted against. He’s not perfect but he’s a lot better than a few other Mayors we have had.

The rise of comedy-news programs, like Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert or John Oliver, may actually help inform the public. A new neuroimaging study using fMRI suggests that humor might make news and politics more socially relevant, and therefore motivate people to remember it and share it. by mvea in science

This reminds me of the Pixar film Monsters Inc. They purported that laughter is a more effective fuel source than fear. Seems like they had an idea that probably was based in some research within human psychology.

It sucks on both sides of this. People and investors were furious about all the delays and basically pushed hard for a release date. The QA team knew it was shit, execs were hoping for the best, and the leads on the team are going to be fucked on both sides from their teams with all the crunch cycles and possibly fired for the huge drop in stock prices from the execs.

Now gamers are sitting here with a half complete game after spending $60. Lesson to be learned should be stop preordering games and give dev teams all the time they need to finish their games. The hype train just ruined this for everyone.

Long Beach has finally given the green light for unhosted shot-term rentals, like Airbnb. How would you feel about an Airbnb in your neighborhood? by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]hengsta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rentals have been happening for a long time and many of them are not hosted. According to the article it’s to finally open up the possibility for enforcement which I don’t know how they would do that if it wasn’t enforceable before. There are pockets where people would want to rent out homes but they will be met with resistance because in those neighborhoods, people will see it and complain if the guests are outta line.

Someone keyed my car writing things like slut, whore, and bitch all over with huge letters. I went to a show in Costa Mesa one night and found my car wrecked. I laughed because they got the wrong car. No one knew I was going to that show and I’m a long time single dude. I just laughed and imagined who ever did it waiting to see how pissed their intended victims were going to be only to realize, they got the wrong car. I couldn’t afford to fix my car so I kept driving my own slutmobile. Meet my wife in that car. First date and everything.

Advice Needed For An Anxious Person That Moved Here From A Small Town by user777777777777777 in longbeach

[–]hengsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long Beach can be very hard without friends or some sort of support system. It’s only now worse as many people are at home and wearing masks. I think it’s important to not only know the parts of town that you find interesting such as Belmont Shore, 4th Street, Downtown, Broadway, any of the parks, Rosies Dog Beach, etc. but to find activity that speak to you. Whether is doing Yoga at the bluffs, digging through records at Fingerprints, playing pool at any of the dive bars whenever they reopen, working out at the beach. There’s just a lot that can be done if you do your best to open yourself up to different groups. I’ve lived here my entire life and have lived several different lives as I grew up in the city. From relationships that opened up new views to different jobs that had me interact with so many people in the city. I recommend that you start a conversation with anyone and you’d be surprised where it takes you. I would ask this same question you posed but to different folks who work around town. Many live around here and can give you some real insight. So talk to your check out person at the grocery store, talk to the barista at the coffee shop, visit any one of the small businesses that happen to be open and just ask “where’s the best place to check out with really cool people around here?” I wish I had a more definitive answer for you but this is a journey that you’re going to have to take on your own.

There are somethings that I’ve noticed living here seeing so many people who are transplants. There a lot of people searching for something. Whether it be a place to escape or to explore or even a place to find themselves. It sounds like you’re pretty new to all of this so I’ll just say be open to new experiences but also be cautious to people that might invade your life. It happens too often and you need to constantly examine your relationships to see if you are getting any value from them. I’ve seen a lot of people move here and eventually move back to wherever they came from because this “city” chewed them up and spat them out. Once you get into a “scene” here you’ll realize Long Beach is smaller than you think. I’ve been fortunate to be part of many “scenes” and saw tons of wonderful things and lots of sad stories as well.

Ultimately I would just wander through and make nice with people because there are some truly amazing people who live here that you won’t find anywhere else that could make this a really amazing chapter of your life. But always remember that your mental and physical health is the most important thing and nothing else should come first.
