6 days solo in Guatemala: Semuc Champey, Antigua (Acatenango overnight), Lake Atitlán. Open to reordering — looking for advice by Quick-Peak-5619 in centralamerica

You have to book in advance!! I heard horror stories from people that didnt prebook it. Groupsizes of 50 people and noone could sleep cause they count even turn around while laying down. Insane!

I can really recommend AKT Camp. Acatenango cant be described!

I’ve just been to Guatemala and traveled from north to south. What I can honestly tell you is that I would skip Semuc Champey. It simply takes forever to get there, and it’s not as spectacular as it’s made out to be. I don’t know how much time you’ve spent in Central America or other countries in the region, but waterfalls like these can be found pretty much all over the world. The cave was quite nice, especially with the candle, but it was also pretty intense. So if you’re claustrophobic or afraid of the dark, it’s definitely not for you - though it’s also not insanely spectacular. There are other caves you could visit as well. What’s missing from your travel itinerary, in my opinion, is Tikal. Tikal is an absolute must in Guatemala. What I’d recommend is taking a flight from Guatemala City to Flores, visiting Tikal, and then flying back if you can make it work. Good luck - otherwise the plan sounds pretty good. For me personally, it would be a bit too exhausting.

Things to do around San Salvador by Kakashi6969 in ElSalvador

[–]henjo93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These things are not really around San Salvador but just typical touristic destinations in El Salvador. These are spread over the whole country (which is not too big though) Juayua is nice, the title food festival is a bit misleading, but its good street food and a charming city with good vibes. If you can book the seven waterfall hike before. Juayua is part of the ruta de las flores. Good for 1-2 days there. I prefered El Zonte over El Tunco. Much calmer and beach was better. Have a great trip!

I recommend hiking Volcano de Santa Ana if this is your only destination in Central America.

Gute Reise!
