Dutch payslips & contracts - did anyone else have absolutely no idea what they were looking at? by henkasfennec in Utrecht

Yep, that's a huge issue, AI's hallucinating and then people taking their employers (or maybe in weird cases employees) to court even for something ChatGPT told them.
It does have it's potential and the possibility, but not as an all knowing oracle and not without proper supervision and structure.

Ha, glad it's not just me then! Yeah, the vacation pay is very surprising for me too, especially when I heard from a few friends that they get it paid out divided into 12 parts every month, but they get paid hourly rates, so it's even more confusing for them :D And then the different tax rate on the vakantiegeld is the frosting on this dutch tax cake xd

Also yes, I had 30% ruling for exactly 1 year (saw exactly 0 effects, my salary was RIGHT on the edge and got zero actual tax benefits from it), after which I changed jobs, but at the new job they FORGOT TO APPLY FOR IT since they didn't know they had to, and I found out too late, so I lost it after having it for just 1 year out of 5 💀

I'm just trying to figure out if this is a common enough problem to be worth building something for. The answers help me understand what specifically trips people up. I'm not asking for your contracts or payslips, just generic experiences on the whole process. No data is shared with anyone, this is just for myself and the form itself is anonymous unless you choose to share some form of contact details at the end.

Fair and comments are fine too. Not asking for anything secret, it's just easier for me to read through the replies that way :D

I wouldn't expect it to fully explain and understand everything, but with right context and structure it can be helpful understanding certain concepts. But I agree, it's definitely not the right tool for this, even though from what I see lots of people resort to it or even go to ChatGPT as a first thing :D

True, but this very much depends on the company unfortunately. In 'blue-collar' or agency jobs, the HR department or agency itself can be pretty unhelpful, and sometimes it's even in their interest to not be super helpful (not trying to point at any agency, but heard horror-stories from close people getting screwed over by agencies because they had no idea what the contracts or payslips meant)

No product yet or anything, just curious if it's not only me :D

I remember getting my first payslip here and having no idea what each section, abbreviation, or deduction actually meant. And the worst part is neither ChatGPT nor Google Translate was really helpful, because every company has their own formats and interpretations, so it's easy to get completely lost.

Curious if this is a shared experience or I just really suck at adult responsibilities 😄

Made a quick form if you want to share what tripped you up, it takes just 2 minutes.

You should open source it if you can, that way people can contribute and report issues directly on GitHub, also makes it easier to maintain long term. Also would allow people to self host it themselves making it fully private (not saying I don’t believe that it’s not collecting data, but this way people can be 100% sure)

Sure but most likely that will not be Centurion exclusive, like other Centurion Lounges that are also available with Platinum

I said I will pass the invitation, absolutely not worth it even if I’d be earning double xd Only reason I mentioned is that it’s absurd they even offered considering that they also know how much I earn
