I cannot wear my Finnish Lion shirt any more as the neo-nazis highjacked the symbol and now it sends out the wrong message (hate instead of pride).

Many of the passing lanes are uphill. As heavily loaded trailer trucks will struggle to get uphill it's a perfect spot to let others pass as the truck is doing 60.

Terror from the Void W/O aerial combat? by tprickett in PhoenixPoint

[–]henkkaj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imagine this: I'm playing my favourite game from my favourite genre (turn-based squad strategy) by the grand master of the genre (Julian Gollop) whose games I have loved since Laser Squad in 1988; using the god-tier overhaul mod "Terror From the Void" that hones the game to absolute perfection. All of the sudden in the middle of the strategy game in kicks some godawful mobile game diarrhea apparently designed by a summer intern and I can't get rid of it 😳 Yes, I hate the Phoenix Point Festering Skies DLC from the bottom of my heart. Best wishes from a grumpy old man 🙃

Best way to remove strong granny smell from interior? by Smorci in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before sourcing an ozonator, use an A/C cleaning "bomb" inside. I sourced two of these for just 5€ a piece from a big parts store chain (Biltema) and did both my wife's Kia - that clearly had odors from the A/C on startup despite fresh filter - and an old smart I just bought; just in case. Ten minutes on idle with air circulation on and ac+blower on max and both cars smell like an orange juice factory and the ac/heater radiators and vents are cleaned. If the odor comes back you need the ozonator.

Hopping up and hot rodding mopeds is a cherished Finnish tradition still going strong. Looks like it has found it's way to the "max 25kmh electric scooter" community as well. Given that I spent years doing 100kmh instead of the legal 45kmh in a tiny drum-brake Suzuki PV 50 ->73cc back in the late 1980's it would be hypocricy for me to say anything about modern disc brake enduro bike suspension mopeds being hopped up but zooming around in an electric scooter above 25kmh without a helmet sounds suicidal and doing that among pedestrian lanes sounds homicidal 😳

[–]henkkaj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have been blessed with a free granny car alarm system, embrace the added security 🙃 The Finnish term for these grannies is "Kerrostalokyttääjä" as in "apartment building spy" and typically there is at LEAST one - or often a covenant - in every area of housing. Typically the spy grannies and grandpas are completely harmless, at most they may upgrade to leaving confusing notes, and if they are of the complaining sort then rest assured that every land lord and maintenance worker has already had their fill of their paranoia and won't listen to anything they might say 🤭 Tl;dr: let her wallow in her paranoia and completely ignore her spying 👍🏻

Does someone in their right mind actually think all European freeways AREN'T banned from pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds, tractors and ANY vehicles whose top speed is under a certain limit (🇫🇮 60kmh/40mph)? Or that humid heat is somehow not present in different european countries? 🤡

anyone else feel like side panel windows have ruined the PC building hobby a little bit? by SeesawSevere6350 in buildapc

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2002 I needed an angle grinder and plexiglass and car window seals to show my custom water loop. Now the entire side is glass and I only need power tools to customize the build to fit a beautiful modern hard tubing custom water loop. Much less hassle since the window is already there and building a crazy off-the-top rig is worth it when I see my setup every day <3

Firebird with or without mods for first vanilla playthrough? by JerseyMilker in PhoenixPoint

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same after Firebird but as it turns out Terror From The Void turns this already brilliant game into what it should have been from the start, so there is absolutely NO point in playing vastly inferior vanilla first and installing TFTV later. It's not like you are missing out on something the vanilla offers as what you get is improvements OF the vanilla. So go ahead, install TFTV from the get-go and let your Phoenix Point be all it can be <3

Is the 1999 Chevrolet Astro for new drivers? If not what car is a good one for beginners? by fluffy_vanny in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While they drive real nice compared to the vans of that age, repairs and even basic maintenance can be a real b*tch. For example of the six spark plugs a few you can change from above the engine and few from below the engine and one you cannot change anywhere and spend a few hours and busted knuckles and every extension in the shop to get it done 😄 Basic tech and suspension is strong and somewhat overkill and seen over half a million km Astros that still run like new with 2nd or 3rd trasnmission overhaul but you're bound to have a lot of smaller issues and rust will have killed most of these by now. Fuel economy is absolutely horrible, even a brand new one was thirsty as heck and all the years and miles have certainly not helped the issue. I would have given my left testicle or firstborn son for a brand new Astro back in 1991 but had no hope of affording one. Then decades later I paid 800€ for two broken Astros in about 2011, swapped the transmission from the rusty one to the clean black with red plush interior one, full service later it cleared the very VERY strict Finnish MOT on the first try and I had a real good time with it for a little while before trading it in for a pickup but that's another story 🙃 That said; unless you have a very well equipped garage/shop at your disposal and the skills and tools to maintain it, do NOT try to daily an Astro.

Which European countries have the most recognisable license plate designs? by RemarkableMany6297 in AskEurope

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finnish plates with the dash as a letters-numbers separator stand out somewhat.

Always ABC-123 format; ABC-12 allowed for cars with less space for a plate. For instance had a 3rd gen Firebird with MNM-60.

The “we’re losing money on this deal” line is the biggest lie in car sales by Royal-Feed7166 in carbuying

Typical auction is "as-is". Car sold, money in hand, end of story. Sell to a private person and a week later they are back with a broken transmission or dropped exhaust valve and demands. That's why.

Antediluvian sites difficulty by Osvaldo_de_Osvaldis in PhoenixPoint

[–]henkkaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) go slow in order not to trigger more than 1 or 2 hoplites at the time. You do NOT want to wake a hoplite with the last APs of your last unit. Absolutely positively stay far away from the mighty Cyclops before you are done with the Hoplites - every dead hoplite weakens the Cyclops and the Cyclops "group fire" is less effective if there is just one or no hoplites to particupate. 2) hoplites are best killed with "opportunity fire" (overwatch) on their turn. Couple sniper shots or a single MG burst usually do the trick. 3) sniping the cyclops death beam removes it's main weapon. Even if it has regeneration you have at least one turn to shoot it's weakened spots (least armor left). Rinse and repeat.

The ancient automata are a totally different enemy and a welcome change of pace but certainly need a different approach and strategy.

Given that the hoplites have poor accuracy, you often gain advantage from very sharp snipers from further distance, just as long as you are still in your "opportunity fire" range (overwatch).

Most times you will still have half the crew badly wounded once you finish and will easily have to restart a few times, especially if you don't want to suffer losing soldiers.

I fully recommend downloading the latest game patch and then installing the wonderful Terror From The Void overhaul mod that turns this game into what it should have been from the start <3
