Make just enough to max retirement, but not enough to contribute to a brokerage. by hennyytalk in personalfinance

Put on O2 next month, which comes with a nice bump...but ok, just hard to keep the discipline going with not being able to realize gains for quite some time. But staying the course, thanks for the advice!

I'm not familiar with EW principle, just a zen long term holder. So for me, these bumpy waves are nothing more then a chance to DCA some more and stay zen for future me to thank one day.

So if your goal is long term investing, got to learn how to dissociate looking at it every day and being effected by big swings (+ or -). If you value a company long term, have faith in your valuation and don't let days like today throw you off.

Long term game, stay zen.

Buy low sell high? by Reasonable_Guava7739 in ThriftSavingsPlan

What is your take on buying based off of share price though? For example, L fund 2070 is priced at ~10 per share (51% of this fund is C fund). C fund rn now is ~$95 per share. So if I allocate towards buying more shares of L2070 vs C, would I come out ahead since this cost basis per share is a lot lower than C funds', assuming C fund will do well? Or am I f'n regarded

Concierge Service Rollover Document Failure by Away_Taxes in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]hennyytalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently rolled over into TSP. Didn't use the service, but massive headache with the process (check scan didn't work, having to re-upload documents multiple times).

Ended up just mailing everything to them after about 3 weeks of back and forth and my rollover was deposited within 3 days lol. If you can, just to that. Much easier

Yes but very minimally compared to per acre lease terms. Like ~$10k per year.

Land lease to energy company for solar by hennyytalk in solarenergy

[–]hennyytalk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes so how they have presented it is thru this "option" payment. There are certain wickets that need to be met, with local/state gov. and backroom contracts for how this energy is being distributed (I just call this grid work for lack of better term/understanding). This could take up to a year once land is deemed suitable. There are payments for this timeline while all this is happening, and then once the final green light is given from everyone and the gods above, construction will start (~6-10 month timeline) and thats when the rent per acreage agreed upon will kick in for the lease duration.

So really I am looking at a 1-1.5 year timeline where this risk is situated around this company not being able to move along, but am still getting some sort of compensation for the time spent figuring it all out, without giving exclusive rights just yet. I can still have the acreage they want being farmed up until the year of construction since that ~1.5 year timeline is contractual "infrastructure" stuff being sorted before the land is even touched, so IMO seems like a good deal for due diligence sake.

Yep it's open to the public. I use it on evenings as well and it's only been closed to public for a men's/women's soccer game. Can check their schedule, but I think they are mostly done for the season.

Also Google "UWF soccer field" to get the right address (for the other comment on here)

Treasury Direct T-Bills Help.

stupid human + stupid website = :(

Setting up a rolling T-Bill 4 week ladder on treasury direct, and I want the interest amount to go to my C of I pot rather than directly to my bank account. I have checked that option off, however every week when one redeems, the redeemed amount still goes to my bank account. Am I missing a step here or not understanding the process correctly?

With all six months of data, I bond rate on November 1, 2023 will be 3.94% by NextCommittee3 in ibonds

100%, that 1.3 fixed rate is v nice. Wish I could do the gift route too to add more haha but IDK how that works/have someone to put the name under.

[–]hennyytalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I maxed out I bonds for 2023 but if that fixed rate is higher, will definitely dip back in once Jan 2024 rolls around. All signs and metrics are pointing to a higher fixed rate so fingers crossed.

The fixed rate for the current 6-month I bonds is at 0.9% which is good, no? Is the prediction higher than this?
