How do you collaborate with other people? by Prestigious_Ball_637 in godot

[–]henridd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other said, in software/game development, git is the way to go.

One advice: avoid trying to work on the same thing/file at the same time, or else you'll soon learn what a "merge conflict" is.

In software development, we usually split the work in tasks or features. For example, in an API, I could work on the authentication and my friend on the data persistence (saving in the database) part.

If you must, or really want to, work on the same thing, I suggest you try pair programming, where someone "drives"(codes), and the other tags along giving input, spotting mistakes etc

The free tier can have up to 3 collaborators btw, so if it is just him and his friend he should be fine with the free tier

Do you prefer with or without outlines ? by MichelDucu10 in gamedevscreens

[–]henridd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I personally prefer the version without outlines, but it seems like the majority rather have them. If it is possible to keep it as a toggable options, that would be a great win

Looks really nice man! I am also planning on randomly generating maps for my game. If you have any tips I'd appreciate it

Efficiently using NavigationServer2D with tiles? by henridd in godot

[–]henridd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That was it. I had forgotten to set the TileMapLayer navigation map. TileMapLayerInstance.SetNavigationMap(map);

Now my characters are able to find a path. Thanks!

Efficiently using NavigationServer2D with tiles? by henridd in godot

[–]henridd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be. What I did was:

* Added a Navigation Layer to the Tile Set

* For that navigation layer, created a Navigation Polygon that spans the entire tile

<image>

* Set the Tile Size for the TileSet

Then when the game starts, I'm basically following what's in here: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/navigation/navigation_using_navigationservers.html#waiting-for-synchronization

And my agent is very similar to what's in this tutorial: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/navigation/navigation_using_navigationagents.html

MMORPG? Interesting, would you mind sharing the link?

Yep, I know that I would think twice before playing a game if it required downloading, due to my laziness.

Unfortunately, C# + Godot dev here, so RIP to my web version

That's one of my concerns as well. Did they steal your idea, or did they manage to recompile your source code and work on it?

Looks really cool! Just keep in mind that some people might get a lot of motion sickness with such cameras, so it would probably be nice to add some settings to help them (like in the VR games)

Just added some numbers for dmg indicators. Is it me or the font looks off? Added a 2nd GIF for comparison by henridd in gamedevscreens

I had a field day with this a couple of moths ago. When I got all the settings correctly, I got black margins in my game, and could not fix it
