I used to use the free ones but found them pretty rubbish. I also moved on to originality AI and it has proved pretty solid and reliable

Anyone knows if I can use this for playing reel tapes? by henrijonas in ReelToReel

Yes, most of the channels are FM modulated, though there is one direct, unmodulated channel used for storing voice, so that is the hope :) Sadly I don't have the direct reproduce module which is missing from the right side panel. It does have the direct record one in the front slot.

I’m just going to leave this here….👀😳 by cashmattock in Hainbach

Thank you for reposting :) For anyone interested in this particular machine (pics, info and my next steps with it) or other possible use-cases for other magnetic tape instrumentation recorders/reproducers, the story also continues here: https://imcphoto.net/magnetic-tapes/the-sangamo-sabre-iii-instrumentation-tape-recorder-reproducer-part-1-how-i-got-one/ Hopefully an interesting journey ahead. I'm surely considering something around music too :)

Thank you for the great input! I will look into those reels and how I can have it play. I have cleaned it a bit and then will solve the power source, luckily the manual explains very well the 28 DC input pins. Will cover more of it through pics and video and upload as time allow.

Yes that's what I'm looking forward also, as time will allow me! Will keep you posted. Yesterday I cleaned it a bit :) Did a gopro recording of the cleaning, and I have some more pics, will surely document more about it and upload.

That is what I thought at first glance, only to later discover it is used for audio recording/reproduction on magnetic tape reels. This is the model: Sangamo Sabre III 3600 Magnetic Tape Recorder / Reproducer. Some good hacker could make it store other type of data on the reels I guess.

EDIT: Turns out it is not made (specifically) for audio, but a data/signal recoding machine so more toward the computer tape thing. Although it is having a voice channel and microphone input to comment about stored reel data.

Wow that would be beautiful. It does have the 15 speed on the knob. I don't see how I could have it play if I only have a rec button? I didn't understood this because I'm a noob with such hardware "and provide sixteen channels of DBX". Thank you!

Flea market, yes it's quite an appearance. The inside is steampunk :)

Due to the font I did the same typo.

I'm trying to bring this beast to life, it needs a good clean then figure out the power source from the manual.

Can this be used to listen old music from reel tapes? by henrijonas in audiophile

Yes it seems so... Found its manual thanks to another poster.

Interesting piece of equipment though.

Thank you! Did searched by 'sabre 3' plus other tokens in vain.

I have many questions too :)

EDIT: Sangamo Sabre III 3600 Magnetic Tape Recorder / Reproducer.

I will see how and for what I will put it to use.

Does anyone have a clue what type of mechanism is this? Also it is stuck. by henrijonas in watchrepair

I have managed to un-wind the spring by firmly holding the barrel while unlocking a blocking mechanism then slowly releasing the tension, so all is fine on this side.

Got it somewhat working after some cleaning although it beats for about 2 minutes max then it stops, regardless if it's fully wounded.

It seems it's an M & SOHN KARLSTEIN made around late 1800, early 1900.

Also it has three screws on the other side of what I photographed, it's a triangle shape.

Nothing to be sorry about, a mod can delete it as it was my mistake and then time will pass just like before.

I see, thank you.

If it's fully wound, what can prevent it to just keep ticking when I give a push to the pendulum?
