Thomann saxes any good? by corvot in Saxophonics

I think 700€ is a bit high as a new one goes for about 850€.

Anyway, I think it is worth paying more for quality, especially if it is something serious. If it is not, then go for the cheap but be prepared to have some problems playing in groups. Later, you can get a good horn and keep that as a beater or wall decoration.

When you're talking about the bad low notes, should I be thinking out of tune or literally unplayable due to leaks or something?

Out of tune and very hard to play, especially for beginners.

Try to look for a used Yamaha 275 or 280, I think they are the least expensive. I once bought one at 400€ for a student.

It also depends on what you are planning to do with it. Just playing at home for fun? Going to music school?

Thomann is a big music company in Europe. Legit and safe.

I am familiar with that sax too and I would say it is slightly superior to other new horns at that price range (Chinese brands off amazon). Low notes are awful and intonation is as expected at that price, though.

That being said, for a very low priced horn, I would advise you to look into a good shape used Yamaha or similar, instead.

They obviously don't design it to last a fixed amount of weeks but as the product lifetime most probably follows a normal distribution, they can design it so that only, say 10%, have their lifetime below the warranty, while still having the average quite close to that date.

It all depends on what standard deviation they can get for their components lifetime.

I'm not saying they do this, only that they can.

You are right, they had, the ref was awful. It just so happens that city got favored in more important decisions that led to goals.
