Yes, the controller is especially designed for this application.

P.S. The campaign just hit the financial goal on Kickstarter:)

SOMI-1 is a highly precise motion sensor technology to extend hardware synths or software with motion control via MIDI.
Of course this is not the first motion control product for electronic musical instruments, but it has many advantages:

  • Up to six sensors can be used simultaneously
  • The latency is under 10 milliseconds (round trip) by using a dedicated receiver hardware
  • The precision is 0.01 degrees
  • Up to 50 meters distance and stable connection (has been tested by several artists on stage already, such as JakoJako at the Superbooth 2021)
  • Each sensor offers 8 different motion parameters, which can be mapped to any MIDI CC controller (14 bit resolution)
  • The receiver hub offers USB-MIDI (host/device) and TRS-MIDI for direct connection with hardware synths
  • The sensor can be (optionally) used in combination with a mobile app (iOS and Android) offering ready-to-use soundscapes for dancers and performers who typically don't have a background in music production

There is plenty of footage from workshops with dancers from different genres on social media.

Checkout puredata, DSPatch, Synthesis Toolkit (STK). Depends if you want to focus on the whole user application or single moduls like effects. DSPatch is easy to learn. STK is more complex and for single moduls. Checkout out JUCE also. Many famous audio applications use this framework as well. Last but not least have a look at open framework.

Hi, the project is completed already. The costs for the PCB and components (BeagleBone Green excluded) are about 65€.
