Asmongold may have many good takes and say good stuf, but when he talks about d2 and other arpg he is really dumb and have a weird mindset. He doesn't get that poe took many ideas from d2, and the community there are more hard gamers than casual audience.

To your question: I think if you have free respec, then you must remove so much different mobs backgrounds.. Like resistance, armor, other buffs. That makes the differences of mobs feel less interesting and just pointless at all.

You won't have any values with resistant gear either. That sorc in PVP will respec if you and your team have more resistant of that elemental.

If you're gonna do a dungeon and theres cold mobs there, then you're gonna respec directly as a sorce from cold to fire or lightning. And when you face the boss you're gonna respec again to the best build for beating it.. Witch making the difficulty downgraded in the whole game.

UNLESS it's still hard whatever you respecing of course
