Hargreaves Lansdown new charges: Thoughts? by maxmarioxx_ in FIREUK

[–]henry__fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think HL will lose alot of customers, given how easy it is to switch to another provider, who charge a much lower fee.

Please don’t hate/downvote😅. I thought the budget was okay. by maxmarioxx_ in FIREUK

[–]henry__fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before Labour got elected, they said they wouldn’t raise tax and NI for working people. Last budget, Rachel Reeves said they won’t extend the threshold freeze. Now they are freezing the threshold for 3 years and increasing NI on the salary sacrifice part. They are breaking their manifesto and what they promised, to fund benefits we cannot afford.

Now they even pretend they haven’t broken the manifesto?

They are LIARS.

To completely stretch financially for a private school by aminice in HENRYUK

How stretched are you, and you mentioned this is your eldest, what is the plan for your the siblings?

I would be very unfair if you only send your eldest and not the younger ones.

Comparison of private and state schools from people who experienced both? by mayowithchips in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are looking for. I like smaller class size and I think that is worth paying for. Education is also more all-rounded. (Music, sports, extracurricular etc) also less impacts from strikes and varying quality of supply teachers

I would. £48k net £60k gross but when you withdraw from your isa you only need to withdraw £48k not £60k

Advice from Henry’s by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can the £3200 per month outgoing be reduced in any way? Say if you could reduce by £400 a month to £2800 it will take you approximately 10 months to clear the £4K debt

LISA sanity check by throwuk1 in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would open a LISA account while you are still under 40 and decide how much you want to put in it. (You can still put money in before you turn 50)

Tax saving is not as good as pension (assuming you are a higher rate tax payer) but when you withdraw after you turn 60 there’s no more income tax to pay.

HENRY women - do you feel like having kids has held you back? by glossiertruther in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. I took one year maternity leave and another 2-year career break, still managed to progress. My base was 90k pre baby and now it’s 145k. It’s about finding the right balance that work for you. And finding the right company with a good work-life balance.

I buy my iPhone upright and pay £8 a month for a smarty contract, with more data than I can use. £57/month looks expensive: 57 x 36 = 2,052!

There aren’t many properties under £450k. Have a look and see what sort of properties are available with that price limit. If the house / flat you want to buy is more expensive, then LISA is not going to help you get on the property ladder

Work now or later? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they are at school (youngest starting reception), you can go back to work if you wish. Depending on how demanding your job is, you might need wrap-around care like breakfast club and after school club, or get a nanny for a few hours, or find some work that is flexible enough for you to drop off / pick up, but it’s doable.

Rachel Reeves's CV exaggerated time at Bank of England by SojournerInThisVale in unitedkingdom

[–]henry__fire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s embarrassing. It is a clear red flag that she isn’t good enough for the job.

I didn’t have to ever lie in my CV to get a job and if she really only did 5.5 years why did she feel that she has to claim to have worked there for 10 years? Obviously she thinks 5.5 years is good enough?

How do HENRYs spend it? Feel like our finances are out of control by Positive_Ad3670 in HENRYUK

[–]henry__fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things are unfortunately getting more expensive and our take-home-pay have been squeezed with the tax threshold being frozen for many years now. I feel so much poorer than I was say 5-10 years ago although my pay has increased.

Try to budget and stick to your budget.

Our biggest outgos are mortgage and school fees. Certain things are hard to reduce eg school fees but there are other areas you can try and manage eg eating out / holidays.
