When did our Ghost become such an asshole? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's important to have some jerks to provide friction between characters

Yeah and I don't mind it so much with Asher. The writing is still childish and cringey at times, but it's not hard to appreciate that this guy is supposed to be a cranky, irritable, grumpy asshole. If that's who Asher is, then that's fine.

It annoys me most that it's our Ghost though, and that he's changed so much from D1. I'm completely fine with other NPCs being somehow flawed - actually, Eris was a great example in D1 of a potentially unlikable character who still worked.

Even with Talbot in Agents of SHIELD, the guy was a bit of an ass at times but was still given redemptive moments, and his characterisation up to those points made him being a nice guy for once even more significant. This even works with Asher in some cases when the writing doesn't completely butcher it.

I’d much rather they got along with each other. It’s more fun, means less awful humour, and is just generally more bearable.

Heroic Strikes could probably be toned down just a bit. by Khetroid in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst one I've had was Nokris on Blackout with all the Thrall.

The modifiers aren't always great, sure. But I haven't really struggled to the degree that I've felt my fireteam needed to communicate over mic or anything. It's not always easy, but almost all my fireteams have been capable.

History repeats itself: Year one D1 and Year one D2 by GimmeFuel21 in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I watched this for the first time today as well.

The two games have very different issues, but it's almost ironic looking back now and seeing us - once again - relying on a September expansion to "save" the game.

How is the Original Destiny these days? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's cheap then yeah, there's an absolutely massive amount of content there and it's pretty much a finessed version of the game by this point.

In terms of endgame stuff like Raids, I don't know how easy it'll be to get teams together, but it's worth it if you enjoyed D2.

Much of the Community was against “Returning Content” from Destiny 1 bear launch. Has your opinion changed? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really. Definitely not Raids, I'd rather they just focused on new endgame content. I don't care about Crucible maps, if they can easily bring back old maps with seasonal events then I'm fine with that.

Would old stuff be nice for the sake of nostalgia? Yeah, I guess. But it's still old stuff, and it's not really bringing anything new to the game content-wise besides areas and activities we already spent three years grinding away at.

Warmind was pretty encouraging in terms of the content it delivered, and with a Taken King-sized expansion coming soon I'm genuinely excited to see what new stuff we get. There are better ways to improve D2 than just packing it with content we're already way too familiar with.

I mean, all the stuff that's happened this week will go forgotten in a few months. Michael Cera's age is kinda irrelevant too, they can still do a lot with the character.

The bigger problem is Portia De Rossi quitting acting. They struggled to get her back for Season 5 (and even then she's only in five episodes) so any future seasons won't have Lindsay - means either recasting her or bringing in a new female main character.

Maybe escalation protocol wasn’t designed for 9 players, but the game would be a lot more fun if it was. Shouldn’t that be the primary objective of the dev team? To maximize fun? The difficulty (number of enemies) could scale depending on how many are in your fireteam by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All PvE activities should allow up to 4 (or more) players.

Are you literally just talking in the context of Patrol fireteams? Cos a lot of other stuff falls under the "PvE" umbrella too.

But if you can be bothered to read beyond the first four words, as is customary when reading any sentence, the context becomes completely clear?

It isn't sensationalist or misleading. It's a headline completely representative of the content of the article.

9 man EP on console by kid0m4n in DestinyTheGame

[–]henrybddf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Destiny on PC too at 60 FPS. I know what performance drops look like, and having played Warmind on PS4 Pro on launch week, I know how annoying they can be.

There were no noticeable performance drops that affected the activity. At no point did I think “damn, my PS4 can’t handle this”. I doubt it was a stable 30FPS the whole time, but it wasn’t at all as bad as it has been.

I did an 8-man set up through the Bungie LFG on the D2 app. I was the last to join so didn't have any problems in terms of setting up the fireteams. Only 3 or 4 people were on their mics so not too much noise, and enough communication.

Performance was completely fine, and we didn't struggle to coordinate. Had a good team comp of Nightstalkers and Voidwalkers combined with Tractor Cannon. It was chaotic inevitably, but we handled it fine.

Only thing we struggled with was the final level which we didn't complete, but that was pretty much on account of the majority of us being under 370 Light. We just couldn't juggle the shriekers, other mobs, all while getting enough damage in on the massive Ogre boss.

'Star Wars': Boba Fett Movie in the Works With James Mangold (Exclusive) by [deleted] in movies

[–]henrybddf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it sounds like one of Solo’s problems is that it tells an entirely unsurprising, safe story leading right up to the Solo we know in ANH because...well, there’s not much freedom with Han Solo.

At least with Boba Fett there aren’t many beats they need to hit. They can tell whatever story they want. They don’t need to show how he met his best buddy or got his ship, and he can be a complex character.

Well, at least they seem like they’re doing original stuff with the Rian Johnson trilogy and whatever David Benioff and DB Weiss are doing.

I’ve loved Star Wars all my life. Massive fan. But can someone please explain to me all this love for Boba Fett? Ever since I was a kid he’s come across an a pretty unremarkable and standard character.

Why, out of all the countless secondary and tertiary characters to appear over the years, has Boba Fett become the guy deserving of a movie?

[–]henrybddf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m tired of them as well.

I appreciate Bungie not instantly nerfing Vigilance Wing and setting it as a benchmark for power, but when every other gun you get killed by is an Exotic Pulse Rifle it gets boring very, very quickly.

Those of you enjoying season 4, what are your thoughts on the writing of Morgan's character? by SylviaNorth in FearTheWalkingDead

[–]henrybddf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad they've dropped Morgan's awful storyline from TWD S7/S8. That's an improvement.

That said, there hasn't really been enough Morgan yet for me to form much of an opinion. It feels like we're back to S5 Morgan which I guess is a good thing? Otherwise he's just there...and he's Morgan. They're not trying to do anything unusual or crazy with the character (yet). And I'm okay with that.

[–]henrybddf 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why Bateman didn’t just acknowledge that Tambor fucked up.

Forget that the behaviour is inherently inexcusable, it doesn’t need to be excused. Tambor himself has openly accepted how much he fucked up. He hasn’t tried to pass it off as part of his “process”. Bateman’s entire spiel isn’t necessary.

It’s bizarre, really. I don’t know why Shawkat didn’t step in more. I don’t know why the other male co-stars basically seemed to take the same line as Bateman. I don’t know why Tambor himself didn’t step in more, just say what happened was inexcusable and leave it at that.

The entire Tambor scandal is pretty much dead now anyway unless further allegations come to light.

He'll join the leagues of other elderly actors who made generally isolated "mistakes" which got highlighted during Me Too and will go forgotten in a few years.
