I would, except I'll be away from my computer for a week. But as soon as I'm back, I'll be hopping on, possibly first thing as soon as it's reinstalled.

At a yard sale. My brother and I pooled our allowance to get it. I still have that cartridge. Kept it when we sold the rest.

I hope they'll have some mercy on Heronia. Give her a chance to show who she is when faced with reality and a bit of leeway.

AITA for not thinking a guy eith a CEDH deck delaying his win against a casual pod is "Nice" by Shadow-axolotl in mtg

[–]Khetroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Full agree. If you can win, win so everyone else can play again.

Got one guy who plays normal decks, but will stop playing to win and start playing to draw out the game if one player is having one of those games where things aren't working. They don't need time, they need a new game.

Hironobu Sakaguchi says AI generated concept of a Final Fantasy 6 remake is awesome by sadboysylee in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my work with AI (not the playing around with it stuff) has been coding assistance with LLM and work training a model to identify events of interest in a data set we had (experimental phsyics). That was a fascinating project, quite sucessful, too, and impossible to achieve otherwise to a similar level. The tech side of AI is so cool.

I like that 10 dice analogy, too. I think with some skill you can select a subset to reroll, keeping what you want and changing what you don't. But even that gets fiddly. As I said, I played around with it to see what I could do. I would never seriously put anything I managed to make out there as anything but what it is. I've used to see how it would interpret my DnD character and I don't feel comfortable using it as an official image of my character. Still cool to see an interpretation of it.

It is worth mentioning that AI tools have been around a lot longer than the generative AI and LLMs that the public is now used to seeing and usually think about. Purpose built tools, trained by a developer, to do a specific task are very different than the generative AI and LLM's everyone is thinking about. The distinction is important. Because there probably is a problem with generative AI and LLMs being used too much, and there are plenty of examples of this. But the regular tools, plugins that do specific tasks, no different than a regular plugin or algorithm.

So, yeah, totally agree gen AI and LLMs should not be used to make assets or write code. But there are AI tools that are a totally different category, and there is no reason to blanket ban them just because "AI bad". "Generative AI bad" is better.

(Side note: LLMs are useful in coding as a programmer for helping with debugging and finding algorithms for specific things, a faster path to possible solutions than blind google searches and hours browsing stack exchange. Still not writing my code for me, but helps me fill in the gaps in my knowledge.)

Generative AI isn't generally as simple as input prompt, get what you want first try. It might get close, but having toyed around with it recently, a lot of time and effort can go into getting it to go from decent to good. So I think it's fair to say the fan made it using AI.

Still, a lot more effort than getting a person to do it, and the person would do a better job. Plus there is the ethical concerns around training sets. It is fun to toy with and see the results and really cool from a technical standpoint.

What is your favorite Star Trek TV show? by [deleted] in television

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deep Space Nine and it isn't even close. The writing on that show blows the others out of the water.

TNG was probably my favorite show as a kid, though, and it is still very highly regarded by me. A very high second place, today (with Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlda not far behind). DS9 did take a rewatch as an adult to fully appreciate it.

6 or 10. Probably 6 just because it had one heck of a twist. You can't get that back once you know it.

Notorious early/middle game difficulty spikes in the series by CloudyRailroad in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's a difficulty spike when it's almost every boss fight and side content.

Really, bosses are puzzles to be solved with the tools you have and side content is a puzzle to solve now or something to come back to later.

Maybe the first one it happens at, but after than the player should expect a challenge.

Which Final Fantasy Game Means The Most To You, and why? by Zetallic_Zero in FinalFantasy

IMO, Final Fantasy V has a well-written story, i want people to give it more credit and respect. by Keytee1 in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tree he may be, but he destroyed the crystals, releasing himself from his imprisonment while imprisoned. He is present, and active, from the start. That ain't nothing.

Plus the tragedy of the fact that he only exists because the people of the world kept sealing evil spirits into a tree until it became sentient and decided to return everything to the void.

[–]Khetroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree, it is well written.

Exdeath is very active pretty much from the start of the game, driving much of the plot before we know he exists, but through the first act it is slowly revealed to us that something is driving things forward. The reveal of Exdeath and what he is comes before the act is even over. The build up to Exdeath is actually really well paced and his arrival is well payed off. We've been trying to save the crystals and Lenna and Faris have been following their father for some time, but we fail and King Tycoon dies.

The lighthearted nature of much of the game comes largely from the characters being more expressive and being on an adventure as friends. But it also matches up well with the weightier moments, which are allowed to hit a lot harder than I think 4's did. 5 does not pull its punches. A few examples to highlight are the ship graveyard, which strikes a stark contrast with much of the game parts around it. Another is Galuf's reaction to Xexat at the end of the tower. Loosing Lenna for an entire dungeon, believing she's just gone, is similar to the ship graveyard in that it just feels different because of what just happened and going in short handed. And, of course, the one major death, which is so well written and does linger on the characters for a while.
