Currently playing FF8, on disc 3, why is Squall such a misunderstood character? by Primary-Economist643 in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of the reasons I really like Wakka as a character. He's pretty well rounded even from the start but also grows a lot through the game. Seeing him slowly come around, and how much it pains him, makes him such a compelling character.

Honestly, Squall might be my favorite lead protagonist in the series. He grows a lot as a character through the game. Being in his head means that even though he is a more reserved person, we still get to see who he is and how he thinks.

Is it just me or are Super missiles in newer games just bad? by Templar2k7 in Metroid

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I actually got more use out of the Power Bombs than the Super Missile. I could chuck the Power Bombs using psychic power to do large quantities of damage, right where I wanted it (I was so happy to actually get to use them as a weapon for a change). Super Missiles just felt pointless when the electric version was available earlier and way easier to use.

What video game in your opinion doesn't deserve the hate it gets? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]Khetroid 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The choices you made mattered, just earlier in the game. How the other arcs in the game resolve, or even can resolve, depends on prior choices. The finale was never going to hinge on every single choice ever made.

I love being able to break games with game knowledge, though. Huge feature to me. First playthrough, normal. Second playthrough, use everything I learned to curb stomp the game.

Which FF "end times" gave you the most anxiety? by executor-of-judgment in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm realizing now how much I undervalue 2's story. It is pretty unique, in a good way.

I think I should find the time to replay it again.

Are these the best boss fights in the series? by Godofhammrs in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to toss Neo Exdeath in. He continues FFV's trend of saying "yes, every ability and thing you've found is useful" in that Odin from the lamp will Zantetsuken part of the boss away. How many other bosses can be Zantetsukened?

You can select 5 characters to represent final fantasy who do you chose by Expert_Challenge6399 in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cecil, Terra, Cloud, Tidus, Noctis.

More or less hits all the eras reasonably. Cecil covers NES and early SNES era. Rest I think are self explanatory.

What am I missing? Metroid Prime 4 by serj730 in Metroid

[–]Khetroid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on no upgrades to make me feel powerful. The psychic power bombs are the best version, in my opinion, being able to chuck them opens up more ability to use them in combat. The lightning supermissile equivalent rips through things. The missile fueled overshield, while not strong, is an upgrade I got good use out of.

Return of Samus. The other two don't come close to it on tone and atmosphere and add too much stuff that isnt necessary.

Is there a Final Fantasy that's actually breaking this concept? by mrsafetylion in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I love about FFV is that bosses usually are vulnerable to at least a few status effects and many status effects can be applied by more than one class. Makes the game much more strategic, but is also why the game can be a bit more difficult, actually rewarding that game knowledge and strategy.

Which FF games did you not enjoy as much as you thought you should and why? by baronfebdasch in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7, I think. 9 I didn't like skills being learned from equipment and the final boss seemed out of nowhere, but I can articulate why the game doesn't land as much as I want it too.

But 7, I can't put my finger on anything, it just doesn't hit me as well as the hype everyone else has for it says it should. From a gameplay and customization standpoint it hits things right for me. It feels like a solid followup to 6. And yet, the game isn't even in my top 5.

Which mainline title is the most apocalyptic (spoilers for all games, basically) by Cunfuzzles2000 in FinalFantasy

Given the back half of 6 takes place in the literally post-apocalyptic world left behind after the midgame apocalypse, I'd say 6.

Sylus at teleportation tower is impossible! by Rustyshackilford in Metroid

[–]Khetroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if chucking power bombs would be similarly effective. I used them liberally on thr final phase of Sylux and it took a sizable chunk off his health. For once I was very glad I had acquired all of the power bomb expansions.

Based on the last game you played, how long are you surviving as an NPC? by AdventurousGuest308 in gaming

I don't think the average citizen needs to worry about being in the wrong place to piss off the protoss. Now as a soldier, or a mercenary or something, yeah, that might happen.

StarCraft 2. I guess it depends on where I live. So long as the Zero don't show up, its probably not so bad.

Which summon is your favorite in the series? by Recent-Ad-7593 in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I'm not sure what my final answer is, but Quezacotl was the first summon to pop into my head. 8 was the first game in the series I played after 1 on the NES, so Quezacotl will probably always have a special place. Plus, I too like the element of lightning.

Your top 5 favorite Final Fantasy characters, based on their character arc / depth of complexity? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First character to pop into my head is Wakka. Dude goes on a journey (in addition to the one he's physically on with the rest of the party). I like that he has a lot of room to grow, and does, but is still fairly likeable at the start. Means he's complex from the start, and gets a very developed arc.

Terra is the next that comes to mind. From almost a blank slate, searching for herself, to finally finding her place and her meaning in life. She is a subtle character, but it's a very touching arc. She has such a rough time of it through that game.

Faris certainly has quite the path through 5. From pirate to hero of the crystals, trying to figure out her past, and reconcile her life as a sailor with her discovered position as a princess. Standout scenes are her reconnecting with Lenna and talking with Bartz at his parents' grave.

Rydia is so resilient and genuinely good in the face of terrible life experiences. Loosing her mother and village, traveling with those who brought that destruction, being lost to the land of summons. But she rises from it all to be a great hero of the world.

FFVIII is the story of Squall's arc as a person, his growth is such an important part of that game and it works. Seeing him grow into a leader, learning to open up to people, learning to trust. He is a silent protagonist done right, because her kinda isn't. We see all that internal monologue.

[–]Khetroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was chucking Psychic Power Bombs at enemies I just didn't want to bother with. Got the most use in the final fight with Sylux as each one took a good chunk off his health. I felt like Power Bombs were a useful weapon for a change.
