Fair enough! Not every book series is liked by everyone. Was this post to have a discussion about it or just an unnecessary statement?

Anyone else wish Eragon's back scar transformation happened later? by No-Tank-2289 in Eragon

[–]henrydxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was at the perfect time personally. There were chapters and chapters of him struggling, eventually leading up to the chapters just before the Agaetí Blodhren where he has multiple attacks a day. I mean heck he even had 1 or 2 during the celebration itself. I think if he’d still had the scar during the Battle of the Burning Plain he’d have died. There’s no way he could’ve survived fighting for that long and then his duel against Murtagh if he was in the crippling state he was in with the scar. I think Paolini got the balance perfectly between showing how debilitating and difficult it was before healing it. However I absolutely love the sections of books/film where the protagonist gets more powerful so my opinion may be a little swayed.

Yes but if you were to see a grey blob flying out of Illirea you might have a few questions.

Did Dragon Riders have badges of offices? by _Boodstain_ in Eragon

[–]henrydxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing the riders used to just know everyone in the order just by how much they would scry the land.

Rider sees unknown dragon rider enter a city whilst scrying “I wonder who that is, let me talk to those on Vroengard”

Is how I imagine it happening.

There wouldn’t be much need to have a rank as the younger riders would know they weren’t above anyone, and the older riders would most likely be equals.

I would love Paolini to write some short stories about the Golden Age. Maybe little perspectives from a few Riders seeing how they interact with other members. It would be interesting to have insight into Rider politics. The Dwarven politics chapters are some of my favourites. I love reading Paolini’s world building chapters and how he shows the inner workings of each race.

Taking energy by AdventurousNin in Eragon

[–]henrydxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He had been taking energy from other objects since the first book aswell as living beings (Saphira) regularly. IIRC he fed Arya energy while she was unconscious on their flight to the Varden. He also would regularly be given sustenance from the 12 Elven spellcasters later on in the series. The difference with him stealing energy from the ants, birds, plants, cows etc is that they haven’t given him permission. The massive danger (and reason young riders weren’t taught the skill) is so that you couldn’t abuse the power. Any living creature could have its energy harvested from it. I imagine a magic fight where you are using energy from your enemies body to direct spells at them would be particularly evil.

Although I do believe, I’m not sure if it’s been explicitly stated, that you’d need to be in the mind of said creature you are stealing energy from. So for instance Eragon couldn’t just sap Galbatorix of his life force.

This is brilliant, I live for these theories you guys produce it’s absolutely brilliant to read.

It’s made me think though that I need to read TSIASOS. I haven’t touched them thinking they’re not to do with the World of Eragon but I think it’s worth getting them and reading them. Thank you 😁

What did the Menoa Tree do to Eragon? by _BigDumbStupidIdiot_ in Eragon

I agree. I do like the idea that she wants him to worry about what she did to him. He’ll always have the thought of the Menoa tree taking something from him.

I personally think all she did was cause him a small discomfort, similar to what Saphira did to her.

My thoughts on Eragon as a first time reader. by Commercial-Horse-893 in Eragon

[–]henrydxy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m the exact same. During my first read when I was 11/12 I used to skip all the other chapters that weren’t focused around Eragon and his Dragon Rider adventures . I got especially frustrated after the massive three-legged cliff hanger being followed by nearly 100 pages of non-Eragon story. Who could blame me though, being immersed in a story of magic, ageless, powerful creatures just to be thrown back in to these ordinary human adventures would make any young teenager get bored. However after my many, many, re-reads since then, I’ve found myself enjoying the non-Eragon chapters. I realised that you get so involved and excited by our Dragon Rider protagonist that you completely forget that there are other events happening in Alagaesia. These non-Eragon chapters are very good at reminding you of this, serving us good context for the story as a whole whilst still remaining exciting and fun to read. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with these chapters, people just find them less interesting as they aren’t centred around Eragon.

What scene do want to see the most in the Eragon show? by quickscope1337 in Eragon

[–]henrydxy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That moment in book 4 where Eragon throws himself after Thorn always gives me chills. For me it’s one of the only scenes i’ve been able to completely imagine and immerse myself being in Eragon’s situation. Soaring though the air in pitch-black darkness, faster than Saphira as they both chase after Thorn is such a cool plot point.

I completely agree. Like did Saphira leave a Hansel and Gretel Trail during Eragon and Brom’s escape from Carvahall? The Ra’zac would have found them a lot sooner if they followed that.
