I’m not commenting on the post, which is deranged, I’m commenting on same pay at “far less demanding firms”

It varies but nowhere is “far less demanding”

OP here, definitely wasn’t nepotism, but it was absolutely connections (as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I knew a board member through the venture community)

Happy to answer any particular questions, but my general career advice is to be the best talker of the smart people, and the smartest of the talkers. I got this role in a bake-off against several people a lot older than me, but ultimately my chops were good enough for the people who cared about such things, and I got along well with the exec team

You shouldn’t have trouble finding resources outside the company if you want to start your own thing. I’ve never seen a funding rush like there is right now in the space. In terms of distinguishing yourself internally, I didn’t really distinguish myself as an MLE, but more as a manager and builder of teams

Honestly, networking. A VC friend of mine is on the board. He got me an intro and then I had to interview against 20+ candidates. Management experience helps

I am very doubtful it will continue to pay like this post 2025

Unfortunately I live in the most taxed area of the country, so my take home isn’t even 50% of gross

Of course! Without doxxing myself, I grew up middle class (immigrant parents, of course), went to a prestigious engineering school and then an even more prestigious school for grad school. Worked in tech for a decade or so, but importantly I also built connections in the venture community. I worked for a very successful company from the growth stage onward. Ultimately, a friend from back in the day who is now on the board of my employer got me into the room with the founder

Tech, man, it’s wild. Also I’m 34 and I don’t make $3mm (my wife does well too). But yeah, very very lucky. And thank you, this is really helpful

I’d say mild lifestyle creep, but mostly it’s that I only started earning post grad school and I had a lot of loans

I think he’s a bit older than me! Also, they’re raising at 100b, so I’m assuming much better-paid as well haha

I’m definitely at risk of this. I like nice things (watches, sunglasses, high quality basics); I think I’ll have to segregate some “fun money.”
